Goldenloch feb -01-, week 05, 2015
Wowser, after all that wind and cold frost with frozen then unfrozen we have a day, Saturday of no wind, and reasonable warmth. A couple of lads fishing did amazing with the father getting 5, and son who really hadn’t fished much before and only ever having caught 1 before, getting 3, all from the bank mostly caught on nymphs, but a yellow dancer was used as well, so the fishing is superb, the fish are not really rising, or feeding, well why would they, the night temperatures’ are very low, and there is certainly nothing hatching, but they are cruising about very rapidly at about six inches below the surface and can be easily spotted by the bow waves on the surface if the water is calm, things changed rapidly for Sunday with the wind completely turning direction and blowing very cold from the north east the resulting effect was to completely stop the previous few days good fortunes, a very low air pressure didn’t help either and no fish were caught but the visiting anglers I don’t assume were to bothered as they spent most of the time exchanging equipment, Alan Gibson managed several tugs and pulls but alas nothing to the net he did however say that that was probably the coldest days fishing he had done for a long time, with one month gone and February now started we need to start dreaming about warmer days and happy fishing in March but somehow I don’t think the weather is finished with us yet, a wee message for the Captain, where were you last week even you could have caught fish, Monday and Tuesdays’ average catch was 7 / person
