Goldenloch march -28-11
What a difference a few nice days make, with the sun shining for the last four days the fishing has improved dramatically, fish are now showing in most areas of the loch all day and can be seen feeding on the surface in the late afternoons and early evening, and now that the clocks have changed we expect that anglers will be arriving after work as they will manage to get a decent amount of time fishing, the cormorants are the biggest threat to the fishing at the moment, every morning I am up before daybreak with my rifle, they arrive about 15 minutes after you can start to see about 50m and usually go straight into the water without even circling the loch, usually about 3 or 4 in the first wave followed by another 4 or 5 about 10 minutes later, as they are protected birds they cannot be shot, but they are predators and each bird can and will eat about 3 fish daily as well as the others that they mark and hurt so 10 birds easily affect the loch by about 40 fish daily over a week that’s nearly 300 fish easily £1000 and that’s the reason I get really mad at them, but that’s not all the harm they do it is very obvious that on the days that they are here the fishing for the first few hours is really difficult and I am sure that because we are a small loch the cormorants very quickly and easily terrorise the fish and as there is so many places at the Goldenloch for the fish to hid they do and it takes a few hours for them to forget and start feeding again, so its shooting to frighten as opposed to killing, J Hennan and R Grierson Methil out for the first time this year did very well with quite a few returned as did A Daly Perth, Don Stewart, Glasgow had 7, 5 returned using a Montana, J Gourlay and A Burke Coaltown of Balgonie had a slow early start on Sunday morning, but it was very cold, (Frosty) however as the loch warmed they soon got into fish using a shrimp and a daddy long legs fly, Bob Nuttall Markinch, battling on for another season managed a few, returning 1 and keeping 1 on Bloodworms its nice to see the older generation getting a few, as usual we don’t mind if you wish to take your car down to the loch side its much easier now that the ground has dried a bit.
