So a lot is or has happened at the Goldenloch, the road in from the main road has been repaired, with big sections being completely resurfaced it was appalling just how bad it had got, but they the council have stepped up and fixed it, so at least anglers will not have to worry about damaging there cars in the potholes while attempting to come here, the fishing is really beginning to start to take of with the weather being reasonably settled the last few days and some warmer afternoons fish have been seen rising inquisitively showing signs of spring activity the heat is beginning to get through to them, although the water is still a tad cold for this time of year, Easter being very early this year hasn’t really allowed dads and granddads the opportunity to get out fishing and with the coldish weather its not been seen as something that could be best described as a fun day, however the sun will shine and bring heat making fishing a pleasure, no need for big thermal jackets and trousers, this has been a good week of catches Brian Stewart and Willie Robertson having a blistering day on Wednesday all on nymphs and buzzers, Three lads in a boat just chilling doing well and Harry Smith, Aberuthvin, fishing with his uncle of 88 had 3 each, a couple over the 4lb mark, which we can assume are genuine two year old trout if not more with strong well formed tails and fins.

It’s a very early Easter this year and bang on time things starting to hot up, well just a little, two weeks ago Monday 8.30 am water temperature was 6.2 degrees, a week ago it was 7.1 degrees and today it’s a blistering 8.2 degrees, however the upshot is there are many more fish being caught, with the road being opened albeit just for a few days anglers have managed to wiggle there way here, Steve Smart, Strathmiglo doing really well with quite a few, Brendon Harris with his dad and brother Kinglassie had 11 all returned and 3 over 4lbs Yesterday saw a fair bit of wind in the morning with the afternoon being fine and anglers doing well, Brian Dewar and his pal Alec Burns fished on Saturday, which to be honest was a really wild day, not just a high wild gusty wind, but a pretty cold day, not the kind of day you would expect people to turn up and fish, Brian did really well and Alec had a couple, both also getting loads of knocks and soft takes, and both said all the fish caught were in top class condition, but even this hardy pair had to return to the lodge for warmth a couple of times, so I think we have a bit of a break with the road repairs for a couple maybe three days, this so as the repair team can work down in the village, so far the job is looking really good, will make a big difference to coming to visit with us.

The road has got a partial resurface and its good, the fishing today has been really good and the water has warmed quite a bit in the last few days,3 young lads had 6 fish, 2 on a small blob fly and 4 on nymphs, however they also had many takes and offers, Steve Smart also doing well with some crackin fish

Well if you don’t have a laugh, sometimes you would just cry, strange things happen at this time of year and its all hype, basically, traditionally this would be the start of the trout fishing season and there is a pretty good reason for that, traditionally fishing lochs closed for the winter, some still do, due to the fact that the fish usually are very hard to catch, being they, the fish, are lying dormant on the loch floor waiting on some warm rays of sunshine to penetrate down, which would coincide with some early fly hatches, and you would get a few fish moving, this year has seen a slower than normal rise in water temperature its now at 6 degrees, last year it was 7.5, that’s not a huge difference to us, but it probably is to the fish, so the upshot is that the fishing just now is difficult or slow to happen, as it takes till late afternoon till it the warmth really kicks in, but for some this is intolerable and grumpiness’ creeps in, some fisheries have a huge amount of fish in them and work a stocking rate of a little but often practise, however that is their business and anglers fishing there regularly have much bigger catches, OK that’s fine, they are also a lot busier, that’s cool as well, but don’t come here in mid March expecting to catch masses of fish, and if you do come fishing, then accept that there are plenty fish, and that its cold and that you have to be a bit better at fishing, or at least have more savvy and understand how to fish at this time of year, this week several anglers have caught reasonably large catches, a few have caught one and twos, traditionally that used to be plenty, for most of the anglers coming here it is, today Sunday everyone that I saw had caught at least one and again some had caught 6 or more yet it was a really cold day and a easterly wind to boot, the forecast is warming so happier days are coming, also for the benefit of any doubt, and it is the opinion of quite a large selection of anglers coming here that the use of snake flies or any type of tandem fly is strictly prohibited as from the 15th of March, this is based on the opinion of 11 out 12 people that their use is not in the spirit of what should be Fly Fishing For Trout a Sport.
