Goldenloch
October-16th –Week 42-2016
Wow, didn’t expect as quiet a week as the one that’s just past, with my weekly blog I usually try to give a report on how the Goldenloch is fishing, whether it is good or bad, and I also try to be as fair as I can about what is current and topical, but it is all historic and no one can guess what the fishing is going to be like to-morrow, * That’s why a good name for a fishery should be “You Should Have Been Here Yesterday”* an example was on Saturday past, anglers could do no wrong, catches were outstanding and the fishing was, “to quote one guy”, “ Just pure Brilliant”, then on Sunday 16th, the weather changed, a wind from the East, a temperature drop of 4 degrees to 8.5, then we had a full compliment of anglers, Barries Angling Club, plus a few that I suggested go on the bank, I had noticed early a lot of fish up on the sides, now the fishing sometimes here can be reasonably intense, and a bit tricky, as it tends to be based more on what is currently hatching, unlike some other places that stock with less fish yet more often, there anglers can catch using the latest array of blobs and FABS etc, today the fishing was outstandingly hard, I know we have a big head of fish in the loch, mostly of well settled fish, the result was anglers were catching fish, but were having to work really hard at it, some had sore arms, some had sore fingers and some just were stumped, this because the fish were really low in the water, I am not sure what exactly was the best flies that were catching, but I do know that all very much enjoyed their day, the lads on the bank however had probably there best days fishing ever, with goodness knows how many fish caught and lost, one thing I will say about the fishing is that everybody out on Sunday had masses of offers and loads of lost fish, It’s that time of year when all the fisheries are going to have their winter leagues’ and Competitions’ we may have something later, but it will be for those less able anglers, but if your looking to go fishing without there being a competition on, or for a nice bit of peace and quiet, then you are welcome here, this is a place where you can just turn up and go fishing, boat or bank, no prior bookings required, hope to see you soon.

Well its been a really busy week this past week and the fishing generally is pretty good, but I must say that the cold front that has come in from the East has dropped the outside air temperature down some 5 degrees, that on a day average, strangely without a wind it hasn’t had that effect on the water, which is still hovering around 10 /11 degrees, so the outcome is fish are rising to hatching flies but are being uniquely fussy, are being very specific about what they are taking, now what has been working very well is very small black wet flies with tiny white wings and sometimes a red Diawl Bach, but even then we are talking small, its proper good sport fishing and with it being like this its producing some unique catches, some lads getting big numbers and others blanking, there are fish showing and rising all day hundreds of them, loads of Brown trout now showing there presence it has got to be unique that these trout now know when they are out of season, yesterday local Peter caught a near perfect gorgeous specimen about the 5lb mark, which he happily returned he was using a wet fly, a small black pennell fly which had a yellow tail as opposed to a white one, also catching on one of the other flies which was a dry emerger and these are pretty typical of what is working well just now, but isn’t it good that its gone this way, Sandy Drummond, Kingskettle another local guy also doing really well using small black wet flies and tiny wee buzzers has been having some great days fishing as has Eddie Henderson, Perth, regularly catching respectable numbers of fish, what is not so good is the guys coning with the lures and bigger stuff who aint getting even a knock, but for them they have the frustration of fish rising all around them, AH The JOY of Going FISHING.
