December-12^th –Week 49-2016

Much milder, the fishing is much easier, not much to say really only that its been quiet, which is nice, we could do with the ground drying a bit as there is a lot of groundwork’s to get finished before spring, water level is now at it max and the new level is much better, we have figured out why the fish have been so close into the sides its due to us lifting the level of the loch by some 14 inches the knock on effect is that the soil adjacent to the banking is now waterlogged hence all the worms and grubs going into the loch,

December-05^th –Week 48-2016

So we had five really hard frosty days last weekend, and 3 inches of ice formed, which was pretty good clear ice, it melted fast on Tuesday last week when the temperature moved up from – 5 to +5 degrees, Wednesday saw a 50% clear loch and loads of fish showing round the edges and two anglers doing exceptionally well Billy and Colin both regulars and locals had popped up just to have a look and then deciding to have a quick fish both caught 2 each in just a few minutes, which was great as they both had seen a lot of fish seemingly chasing what they thought were beetles or something similar, however Thursday and the next few days were quite a bit cooler just bordering on freezing and it had the effect of making the fishing a bit harder, lads were catching fish but not as easily as they would have liked, everyone over the next few days has caught something, one chap even had 8, another 5, but most had 2, nobody was complaining as there were plenty fish to be seen, they were just harder to catch, which being honest is what it should be, excepting Les and pal but I am pretty sure they had the bonus of catching a cold, Today Monday after another night of hard frost – 6 rising to -3 we have again got a full covering of ice and it looks pretty cold out there

November-28^th –Week 48-2016

Time passes quickly, far to quick, 28^th Nov is usually the end of many companies financial year, and it is for us at the fishery what would be best described as zero day, traditionally its when we add up the summer figures and expenditures, also the total fish stocked and plan the next season, later today I will have a rough idea what the answers are but at the moment it looks like the fish that we introduced is higher than ever before, Yesterday saw Brian McGlashan at the Casting Clinic, we were a wee bit disappointed at the numbers that turned up,  considering that several that would benefit from his knowledge were personally invited and said would attend, however there were a few legitimate call offs, the hard frost didn’t help, in that we have approx 2 inches of ice covering the loch, but for those that showed there was nothing but praise, Brian’s approach is unique his manners is amazing, with great patience and many years skill he can help the complete and absolute beginner, yet turn on the tap for hardened die hard anglers that are set in their ways, Please gents we will be holding more sessions in the early part of 2017, try to come along I am sure nobody will be disappointed, I have to be honest this has been a very strange week though but last Monday and Tuesday were both amazing fishing days with fish showing everywhere, why I have no idea, Toni Feretzi, Blairgowrie and friends all fishing from the bank had an outstanding day, with 17 fish caught, only Toni knew how to fish but his tuition and running back and forth a great day was had, certainly one of the most amusing days with fish being caught at either end of the loch constantly, milder weather is forecast so a big melt is expected.

This Sunday, frozen or not, sees us running the first Goldenloch Casting Clinic with Brian McGlashan, starting at 10am, Coffee Tea Bacon Rolls available before Clinic, this is a very worthwhile interactive few hours, and everybody will see or understand the benefit, of the very varied types of casting and perhaps some will be able to iron out those awkward moves that have become habits, genuinely this should be a very useful few hours, to many anglers and I would urge you to make an effort to come along, even if only to watch and learn, the forecast for Sunday is milder, but I would suggest warm clothing be worn, the loch is frozen at the moment and the only area not frozen is beside the swans, who have worked non stop going round in circles, 24 / 7 and the fish for some weird reason are jumping out the water and get on top of the ice, hoping for a good turn out John

November-21^st –Week 47-2016

Its Monday 6.55am, as expected the loch is frozen over, its black dark outside, weather station has packed in, display says battery failure, I assume the cold has done that, zero wind and thank god for central heating, that’s one thing about living out in the country, you need good central heating, so how about the fishing, its not been an overly busy week, been steady, but its been a very successful one, however one lad yesterday, no names, he blanked, but he had a massive cheery smile, he did say it was his fault that he blanked as there were fish showing all around him,  another angler Billy who was fishing on the bank and had 4 or 5 said that the fish were only interested in red and black and that he told the struggling chap from Newburgh, but alas it fell on deaf ears, however it is cold and I mean cold, only the die hard lads fish in this, what is completely out of character is the fish that are still breaking the surface and look like they are feeding, Brian Stewart, Dundee no relation, well he had 11 on Thursday while his mate Willie Robertson also Dundee retired to the lodge for some tea, too cold, also fishing was Ken Fraser, Cupar who had 7, 3 of which were Brown trout all his fish he said were well over 3 lbs and all caught on buzzers or nymphs’, Sometimes I get really annoyed with the Fb page as it doesn’t behave or do what I expect anyway found a message from two guys that were here on Saturday past” Had an amazing 3 hours fishing with Kevin Macgregor here today, I had 13 on a yellow dancer and Kev, had 7 on the same fly plus 2 on a green n black bug, 22 fish to the boat in 3 hours is an amazing amount of fish, that’s not counting the offers and misses and lost fish, +2 brownies all safely returned” and here was me thinking you guys left cause you got fed up, but I assume you got frozen stiff, thanks for the message anyway, Next week on Sunday 27^th is the “Goldenloch Casting Clinic” Please make an effort to pop along you will not be disappointed Brian McGlashan is on hand to instruct and advise on both single and double handed casting  a few names already but more would be good
