I am really pleased that the mower is working, so my mower engine fired up, sounds Okay just perhaps a wee diesel knock, which should disappear, yesterday I also fitted a new starter motor to the weed boat, The Naughty Lass, so today clearing was aided by the wind, I shoved pretty much a huge amount of weed onto the shore, I had to stop as the engine on the weed boat either overheated or there is a fuel filter problem, most likely to be the second I think, anyways the new wire rope arrived today which will allow me to winch out a lot of weed possibly on Thursday, as I have to keep the twins busy tomorrow, all go but good fun, all this jumping around is good for my health, I think, it was really blustery today I was not surprised that no one was here, except an entomologist chap from Stirling University, who is going to be doing a study on water beetles, he was stunned by the amount of weed I was shifting, also by the amount of invertebrate’s in it, sadly not many beetles, possibly the perch has eaten them. This I wrote a week ago and since then, I removed the boat from the water as Aaron diagnosed a problem could be the thermostat, I tried to unscrew the bolts however after a lot of years submitted to water and age, the bolt heads just snapped off, faced with the top off I definitely saw that the thermostat was jammed tight, so it was good call, after a lot of jiggery puggaree welding on nuts, heating the casting, I eventually removed the two rusted in bolts, allowing me to replace all, the new sea trial will be tomorrow in the shifting of the weed, its bad at the boat end of the loch, however half the loch is weed free and those fishing have been very positive about the fishing, with angler numbers now at an all time low the future is looking very bleak, I have taken the decision that there is no more monthly season tickets as depending on chaps paying is not worth the hassle, so its now pay as you go just like it used to be, today there was a single angler first time here, on holiday from the south staying in a caravan near Anstruther, his comments were that this was the best days fishing he had for years, 7 returned yellow owl a very small one, plus black buzzers again very small, 8 or 9 offers, lots of interested trout, no Perch great day hopes to be back if not doing day trip, last night boys on the boast said slow to start with but ended with 20 returned

For those that have been fishing this week, it’s been a much better atmosphere especially in the evenings, good pun that one, what I mean is that both the air pressure and temperature has been favourable, actually Jock souter was the first to get a great day on Tuesday I think, he had 5 or 6 fish all returned, what a difference the day temperature makes, although the evenings are still cold a lot of rain these past couple of days, been chatting to the guys about what the like about the Goldenloch, first and foremost seems to be the relaxing tranquil settings which are mixed with an abundant wildlife, ( unfortunately Perch are not included in this) secondly the fish are giving a really good fight and seem to be fly specific in that on certain days only certain flies are working, however people just enjoy coming to place that has quality fish that are pretty much naturalised with lots for them to feed on, today Sunday R Moffat and L Moffat had a brilliant day lots caught and returned, L Graham and G Simpson pretty much rained of had 5 between them, Yesterday George Duff 12 returned, D Wilson and Ciaran 20 returned, C McKay of the bank 6, Scott Fraser 4, S hayes 4, Sandy Band 3, K Buchan 7 yellow Owls, John Bashford 3, Willie Watson had 12, and Huff and Puff on 8 they think, loads more all on similar catches, todays pictures are a mix of wildlife me and fishermen by Steve Nomad Ayemad

Some lads doing really well, however the sudden bright sun has brought on an blanket algae bloom, its mostly confined to one area and will be easily sorted, it has brought on the fishing, providing a place for flies to hatch and land also in giving cover / shelter for the fish, however it is really annoying what would help me is a wind, Scott and Myself pulled a lot of weed from the front of the jetties lots of fish moving however, I took the twins down to the loch for a wee fish and Torrin went straight onto a jetty, while I was togging up Serrin with a lifejacket, she of course after getting all ready to fish then needed a Pee, meanwhile Torrin caught a 8 inch Perch, he was so excited he showed his sister and as perch are prickly she got a fright and then ran for the house (Bless Her) Fishing trip over, she thinks the loch is full of biting fish, anyways lads doing well are M Fairweather 10+, A Waterson 8 + 1 Perch, Rod Thaw 15 on crunchers, Ali Radhi 6, Niel Rarity 2, Colin Hay Eve 9 using a blue/black buzzer, B Kemp3, sandy Band 4,P Hayes 3, During the week cold wind and rain spoiled things, C Young and his Grandson didn’t catch anything, so here’s hoping the weather stays good, I was posted a really nice compliment the other day something that is a rarity these days I am so pleased with it I have added it to my post, to-days pictures are by local lad John McRobbie

Was a reasonable weekend, it turned out great for anglers and the numbers caught per angler were good, but the numbers fishing were disappointing, I am not sure why, perhaps it’s the lack of monster fish, or the ability to win a prize, whatever it is we seem to lacking in something, however happy faces with feel good factors are definitely aplenty, yesterday saw a huge amount of low pressure over central Scotland but the fishing was still goodish, Brian Kemp first time out this year had 3 on dry flies, Pete Hayes had 3, Sandy Band on 4, Rod Thaw 15 using crunchers, Ali Rahdi 6, Neil Parity 2, Michael Fairweather 15, Colin Hay (hi There) didn’t know he was here, had 9, A Waterson 8, Micheal Fairweather 10, George Duff says he lost count a dozen or more all on dry flies, George has been coming here for years and he loves his fishing always catches due to perseverance he Wrote “Great days fishing Thanks again” currently waiting on new pistons and bits for my mower. Disaster today I laid my phone down on the digger track then stupidly forgot about it till I drove forward Oops.

Just when you think that things are getting brighter, better, more akin with normal, it all goes wrong, or in my language, Tits up, firstly my Lawn mower, it had a wee fall in the loch last year ( courtesy of my grandson racing his brothers quadbike ), anyways I thought all was well, continuing to use it, alas water had got into the engine, small cavities, plus the oil tank, well rust had got to certain parts which I suppose is like cancer to an engine, the result is a complete rebuilt, as a new second hand mower is out the question, and now to crown it all, { Blanket Algae } is back, after a break of some years, it’s the horrible stuff that floats on the surface, it can spread like a wildfire, I remember being told a sq m of it can produce billions of spores daily, it loves bright hot sunlight, the fish love it due to the shelter it gives on these hot sunny days, it’s great for insects as well, anglers hate the stuff, the fishing has been pretty good though lately, with most getting really good catches, quite a few no shows which is really annoying, phoning to book boats and then not turning up, it is really frustrating, only this week a guy phoned on Wednesday, Mr Thomas, booking 3 boats saying it was for his father, a couple of friends and two brothers, for the whole day on Saturday, he sounded completely genuine he wanted equipment plus a coach, I told him I couldn’t get a coach at such short notice, anyway the day arrived, guess what they didn’t turn up, the thing is people say get a deposit, to do that I need my card reader which I don’t keep on me, but this sort of behaviour spoils it for others that make phone bookings, making a phone booking and absolutely turning up was Willie Watson complete with a couple of Oak trees for the Lochside, Willie then went on to fish his comment was, “ Hi John, Just for your blog, A wonderful day on the Goldenloch today.18 fish all caught on the dry fly. Fish rising all day long.” Others having great days were Dave Wilson, Rod Thaw, Michale Fairweather all catching good numbers of fish, George Duff, Methil, also doing well on emergers and dries, John Cowie 5 returned, Sandy Band on 4, Roy Kelly having a good day on 8, Alec Cuthbert had 3 returned + a couple of Perch, and an old favourite Willie Pride needing a fishing break had 4, in all its been a good week, But angler numbers are down this year, mostly due I think to the country’s economic climate, however young people are still wanting to go Fly fishing only this week a young lad turned up, and I fitted him up with a rod, reel a line and flies and off he went on a nights fishing, back the next day and then back again this time catching 8 fish, boy was he happy, all from stuff given to me by you, when you buy yet more new equipment, PLEASE I am asking for your old fishing stuff, I am now short on reels, lines and flies at this moment, I can honestly say I have gifted over 100+ sets of rods reels and 1000s of flies + boxes, loads of other stuff full fishing fly tying sets you name it, I can find a home for it, by the way everything that is donated is well appreciated. Most of the excellent Pictures this week are by Steve Nomad Ayemad, his talent is awesome.
