Wild and windy weather
Anglers arriving at the Goldenloch expected a wild time with the forecasted wild weekends weather were indeed met with almost idyllic conditions, Mr Ian Wallace, Kirkcaldy caught 5 keeping 1 at 3.5lbs decided after going home to come back and fish again getting another bag of 5 this time returning all, likewise Mr P Fleming, Methil usually a summer man had 6 returning 4 and keeping 2 for 5lbs, The fish generally seem to be in large groups and rise according to the weather and or cloud cover with Sunday being very bright and clouds coming only occasionally anglers were given treats every time it became dull, on the bank were Mr W Davidson and Mr B Conners, Dundee who could not believe that there were so many fish feeding in the shallows, both lads using consort budgies and gold head Montana’s had a great time with 8 and 9 being caught and all returned, the day before at the same spot were Mr T Garrigan, Glenrothes and Mr F McDonald, Dundee on a £20 day ticket one had 4 for 8lbs and the other 4 for 9lbs again both lads having a ball.
January fishing at its best
January fishing at the Goldenloch has never been as good as it is this year with the fish rising and taking flies on or just below the surface, some fishermen have been getting to grips with their new flies that have been tied in the past few months, and experimenting with floating and sinking lines, using a mini black fritz and something not unlike a blood worm, A Wilson, Glenrothes had 3 for 9lbs 7oz and B Miekle, Pitlessie caught 5 returning 4 using an olive buzzer, Stewart Fenton, Markinch caught 2 for 4lbs 4oz using again a mini black fritz. With the water level now at its maximum and the flow through the loch high, water clarity is excellent allowing anglers to catch fish in all parts of the loch, from the jetties anglers have had some fantastic fun, Mr Steve Smart, Strathmiglo, had a great day when he managed 6 all returned using small Vivas and hares ears, equally pleased was Mr J Wilson Dalgety Bay using a consett budgie managing 4 all returned.
Ice has melted
Fishing has resumed at the Goldenloch now that the Ice has melted, 3 hardy anglers waited on the morning of 6th January as the wind rose to break the already thinned ice and it was well worth the wait, fish eager to see the skies again were tempted by Vivas and Hares ears, getting on to the loch first was Mr John Calliston Jnr, Coaltown of Balgonie, catching 3 for 7lbs and returning 6 all on his home tied Christmas tree specials, Mr Garry Cameron, Bankfoot, returned 11 using Vivas and a Montana, Pensioners Mike Richardson and Mr D Duke, Carnoustie, both eager to start their new years fishing arrived on a very cold and windy day a little hesitant about going fishing however within minutes were catching fish and went on to have probably one of their best ever days fishing, with no apparent reason for catching fish so easily both of these retired gents have now got renewed confidence for their angling abilities and have great plans for 2004, From the Bank anglers have equally had a huge success with Mr Jim Wilson, Dalgety Bay, 2 for 5lbs, returning a further 5 and Mr Steven Smart, Strathmiglo catching 4 excellent rainbows and 1 blue of approx 7lbs returning all back to fight another day.
