Week ending 12/12/05 goldenloch

With all anglers at the Goldenloch getting maximum catches this last week it has to be said that the fishing is superb, every angler enjoying themselves, boat or bank, it made no difference, the fish seem to be feeding on the shrimp and small blood worms that are abundant in the water as well as some small indescribable red buzzer, Mike Aitken, Ladybank catching 4 for 7lbs and a further 4 returned was using a yellow dancer and had arrived late on Saturday, but obviously at the right time as the fish were rising all-around him, Mr S Ewart, Kinross had 4 for 9lbs and his buddy Mr B Davidson, Glenfarg just enjoying himself had 6 for 14lbs both lads after a season that wasn’t quite their best had a great day and hoped that this was how their fishing was going to continue for 2006, Mr C Bowman, Pittenweem returning to the Goldenloch after a few years was delighted with the fishing and he and his partner Mr T White, Anstruther had 3 each using black and green, beginners are still free at the Goldenloch, but it is best to be accompanied with someone that can fish, Mother and son Mrs E Holmes, St Andrews, had what can only be described as beginners luck, fishing from the bank using all new equipment and a couple of books and magazines 3 for 6lbs, however the resulting mess in their tackle bag off tangled lines and junk will take a lot of sorting out, on departing, comments were that they had a fantastic day.

Week ending 05/12/05 goldenloch

December arrived at the Goldenloch with flat calm and gorgeous warm weather, but best of all was the rising fish that greeted anglers, the loch was speckled with rings as if it was a May evening, however it was quite difficult to find what the fish were after, and some trial and effort was required, red bloodworms, red buzzers and damsels won through for most, Jim Horsburgh, Kirkcaldy had 3 for 6lbs and Mr Ray Easton, Bankfoot had 6 all returned, Mr Grant Taylor had 3 for 6lbs and returned 6 using Black and green flies, with anglers not to sure whether to fish boat or bank, many are opting to do both, which is best? we do not have an answer, except that some just like to sit and relax on a boat enjoying their moments, one such gent was Mr Chris Williams from Edinburgh who on arriving thought that the bank looked quite appealing, after catching 2 for 6lbs, he then went on a boat to enjoy the tranquillity of the day, as he was just beginning to relax he caught a rather large Brown trout of approx 5-6lbs followed by another 3 brownies all within a few minutes returning them all, he eventually caught a nice blue trout for 2lbs which just made his day, The pensioners on there usual fortnightly Tuesday visit, Messer’s Brown, Nesmith and McClusky seemed to do very well, however its hard to tell with them, as their banter can be a little misleading but with definitely quite a few returned and a great big smile on their faces as they left we can only assume that they will be back soon.

Week ending 28/11/05 goldenloch

For those prepared to brave the elements, fishing at the Goldenloch is still giving really good days sport, after a really cold spell that lasted for 6 days, Mr T White, Anstruther was one of the first to fish on a reasonable day, getting 3 for 7lbs and returning 1 all on a black buzzer, Mr Dave Bell Kirkcaldy had in his bag a 4.5 lb trout as did Mr W Croll, Kirkcaldy, the Ferry Fly Dressers arrived with 7 lads looking for a days sport and were all bagged up within 3 hours with 21 fish for 45lbs, just as well as a really cold wind started blowing and made the conditions pretty rough. From the bank, anglers are having to cast a lot further as the fish are just shy of where the weed banks are, those with that ability are rewarded with fish shooting from the weeds and grabbing the fly, Mr Amos Stewart and son Brian, Edinburgh, had a brilliant afternoon on Friday with 12 fish caught between them, all returned and all approx 2lbs with 1 at about 5lbs using a mixture of wet fly patterns, but the best result came from the trusty old Diawl Bach and a black buzzer.

Week ending 21/11/05 goldenloch

Hard frost and no wind meant that the Goldenloch froze over very quickly on Thursday night and with each nights frost the ice just got thicker, as of to-day Monday 21st it seems to be melting but very slowly, however good catches last week were by John Callison ( Jnr ), Coalton of Balgonie, 3 for 7lbs with several returned, John who always likes to try as many different flies as he can, commented that this time it didn’t really matter what fly he used, he caught fish, Mr W Mathers and Mr C Mitchell both Dundee had a great day with both lads getting many offers and finally settling for 6 at 20lbs. Mr A Grieson, St Andrews had 3 for 6lbs and returned 3 using a black buzzer, his fish were all caught mid to the far end of the loch. Best endeavour of the week has to go to Mr James Harvey and William Ramsey, Perth, both lads having spent hours breaking the ice to clear an area, and then using black buzzers caught 5 for 18lbs in about 10 mins, just as well as the ice very quickly refroze the area that they had cleared, on eventually reaching dry land the two exhausted lads commented that they both had enjoyed their brief fishing spell and that they would do same all over again.

Week ending 14/11/05 goldenloch

Everyone was a winner this past week at the Goldenloch whether it was boat or bank, lures or flies, after three days of very wild, wind and rain the weather broke and calm, mild temperatures came back, the fish responded by showing themselves in huge numbers, most of this summers the best catches have been at the far end of the loch and at the north end of the bank, but now the fish seem to be at the boat jetty end and the corner nearest the farmhouse, Mr P Bridges, Valleyfield and W Clarison, Dunblane had 4 each returning 2 each using Fritz and Buzzers, both lads enjoying fish striking hard, Mr Ray Easton Bankfoot fishing from the bank using Diawl Bachs, had 7 all returned, and Mr Allan Montgomery, Bankfoot had 3 for 9lbs returning quite a few using the same fly, Mr Davie Bell, Kirkcaldy on a day ticket had 4 cracking fish for 9lbs as did Bob Cox and Jed Burnett both from Dundee, who couldn’t do anything wrong all day and just caught fish wherever they went. Nearly every angler fishing in the past couple of weeks have commented on the huge amount of feeding in the water from shrimp to daphnia and on lifting the anchors the massive amount of bloodworm present in the attached soil, what does it mean any suggestions please tell us on info@goldenloch.co.uk .
