Anglers at the Goldenloch have had a great weekends sport, since last Wednesday when the winds changed from the East, the fishing has improved dramatically the fish are now up in the top 3 or 4 inches of water and although they are not feeding on the surface yet, due to nothing hatching, they are actively moving in all areas of the loch, the swallows are also back and are looking for flies all we need now are a few good days sunshine to stimulate some hatches and things should kick of nicely, The fishing for the past few days however has been excellent with most people getting bag limits and putting a few back John Leckie and D Sinclair both Strathmiglo had 2 each John returning 6 and Dave returning 3 the bonus was that they both had an Artic Char each which they commented gave them a challenging fight both lads were using black buzzers, J Brennar and I Oixon, Perth also had a really good day catching 6 for 13lbs using damsels as did A Glasgow, Forgandenny, who had 3 for 6lbs including a Char and returned a further 4 again using black buzzers, Colin Jeffrey and L Dick, Auchtermuchty, on a day ticket, had a really good day, both lads just enjoying their fishing they spent most of the day at the far end of the loch watching the Osprey and catching a few fish returning everything they caught which included a few char and brownies.

Goldenloch 28/04/2008

This past week at the Goldenloch anglers have had a pretty frustrating time with many reporting lost fish and loads of nibbles and bites most however caught their bag limits and some lads just happened to be in the right place at the right time, Brian Stewart and Willie Robertson, Dundee were late in arriving on Tuesday and had several fish caught within a few hours, Betty Henderson, Cowdenbeath had 3 for 8lbs using a Hares Ear as did R Beveridge who was suffering from a sore leg and spent most of the time in the lodge, but it was the boat boys this week who seemed to be getting the most fun, with the water temperature now up to 12 degrees, the fish are a lot more active in all parts, especially around the weedbanks midway up the loch, Gordon Clark arrived on Sunday for a couple of hours and had 4 one of which was a fair size Gordon who always returns all his fish did comment however that for him it was still bitterly cold and was surprised at how many nibbles and tugs he was getting, this was also the comments from Messrs Fulton, Sime, and Fleming fishing late on Wednesday, having a really interesting time they ended up with 6 for 13lbs but lost quite a few and were broken a few times, with more fish due this week anglers should be in for some really good sport, making up for all the lost days due to the long foul weather cold spell that we have experienced this spring.

A big improvement at the Goldenloch these past few days as the weather has warmed quite considerably, although the chilled wind is still coming from the east the fish are a lot more active, catches have been much better especially in the mornings and late afternoons, with quite a few Brownies now being caught as the anglers are using more traditional flies instead of lures, Ian and Jim Burns Glenrothes on a boat had an exceptionally good time on Saturday morning catching 7 each, using Diawl Bachs and Kate McLarens, Mr Miekle, Pitlessie from the bank returned a few and A Kindstreet Dundee returned 4, 2 of which were 2lb+ brownies, what we really need however is some real hot summer weather as this has got to have been the coldest spring for a long time and it has definitely affected the fishing by keeping the fish down at the bottom of the loch and they are responding slowly to warm sunny days by coming up near the margins where the water is warmer and the fly and insect life more abundant, with the fish stock in the loch high and another load due this week anglers should be looking forward to some exciting days in the near future.

Goldenloch 12/04/2008

This last week at the Goldenloch has seen most of the fish caught from around the edges of the loch The bank anglers have definitely had the best fishing however from the boats there has been many stories of lost fish and pulls Dave Gonsales, Auchtermuchty had 3 for 8lbs and released 4 using various flies while others were getting results using Montana’s B Pitcairn, Halbeath had 2 for 4lbs as did J Knox Crossgates who had 2 as well, Allan Gibson, Bridge of Earn fishing from the furthest landing had 4 which were put back, he was using his own fly which he calls the Claret Jug, Allan who fishes here regularly and has experimented with various fly patterns has developed a range of flies which seem to work exceptionally well, now that he has mastered what he thinks is the right pattern he is willing to sell some, so if you are interested write your name and address in the book at the lodge. W Clarke, Ballingry arriving late in the day on Sunday had an excellent days fishing from the bank, with the water flat calm and the annoying north wind abated he could see where the fish were on the water and using a nomad caught 2 with one at 5.5lbs it was a cracker and was fully finned well pleased with his catch and glad he came late.

Goldenloch 05/04/2008

With a cold North East wind blowing since Wednesday the fishing at the Goldenloch was never going to be easy these past few days, however most anglers managed to catch something as well as probability catching a cold, what we all need is some real warm weather to get the fish active again, it was just beginning to happen last weekend but now its gone all cold again, best catches this week have been in the early morning quite close to the shores the area nearest the trees has still been the most successful, Ged Burnett Dundee had 2 for 5lbs using a black and green wet fly as did A Drummond Kingskettle who also returned 3, Colin Laird Markinch fishing with his father returned a few and kept 1 for 2lbs, brothers Jim and Ian Burns, Glenrothes fishing on a really cold windy day retuned 7 they were using cats whiskers and commented that they should have had loads more by the amount of offers they were getting, summer must be nearly here however as the Ospreys are back, two weeks ago we had 1 and now there are 3 and they have no problem catching fish Saturday morning saw them arrive early at about 7am and leave with 3 fish only to be back by 8 for more, although delightful to watch it gets annoying to watch them take so many fish.
