This last week has again been very varied, I mean one day could be very windy, the next extremely cold, then flat calm, the next extremely hot, for example we were working on my daughters van outside, the heat was nearly unbearable, this morning it is thick fog, I noticed on-line that the canary Islands have had torrential rain with lots of flooding, it’s all crazy, so anyways what about the fishing, well on my calculations we have allowing for natural losses of 20% around 750 to 900 fish in the loch which is approx 80 fish / acre that is a lot of fish, so why then is the fishing so difficult just now, well one reason is my comments above, being the unsettled conditions, then there is the possibility that there is so much feeding deep down in the water, due to conditions in the water being near perfect for the insects and vertebrae that live and breed there, we took a large clear glass container of water from deep down, the amount of creatures in the sample was amazing, everything, beetles, buzzers, snails, larvae, plus some spiders, the oxygen level just now is as it should be, water boatman beetles are the most prevalent and then there is a brown spider that feeds on the water louse, masses of snails on the loch floor as well as pee mussels in other words tons of grub for the fish, therein lies the problem with so much feeding in the water why would the fish come up for flies, today Mr Hodge had 8 returned and a few more that were lost, a good 5 hours was his comment, Darin Taylor 5 returned, Rod Thaw 11 with his buddy Dave Wilson on 14, 1 a Tiger at 4.5lbs, Nick Bailey 2 on dry’s, Sandy Band 4 all on different dry flies, Stuart Cameron 2 using daddies lost a few, George Duff here twice really enjoying his fishing a few caught and released, would boat anglers please rinse the anchors before pulling them into the boats its not nice for the next guy to get into a boat full of mud, Photos today by Mark McCloud.
Fly Fishing @ the “Goldenloch” for trout with a home tied Fly, is one the nicest ways to relax the body and the brain, time and time again clients say how relaxing and peaceful fishing here is, a day’s fishing is something to look forward too, many people say a bad day fishing is better than a day at work.
