This week at the fishery has been very quiet regarding anglers, but extremely busy with the bad weather, boats and water are fine, it’s when the water is inside the boat, that’s when I groan, when it rains now and it’s a right heavy rain, in reminds me about 2015 /16, when I had two super excited hard working boys working here, occasionally we would run out of jobs, they primarily were here to help with weeding the loch, but that moved on to replacing all the jetties down the side of the loch, however it was becoming obvious then, that the water overflow was not really keeping up with the amount of rainfall, a really heavy rainfall in October 2016 saw the ground collapse under the run off from the loch, this necessitated a repair, may as well do it proper and double, nae treble the capacity for run off, after a lot of digging in rubble as the soil had been washed away we began to design and get what was required, a long runway with pipes either side to cope with normal rainfall, fish do not really like pipes, in between was a concrete runway pad for the more intense rainfall, this so as to be able to clear stones etc, Aaron Scott and Greg Watson did an admiral job, a huge amount of work in this construction, which was completed by November 2016, so up till then, the old system managed really well, however since then and its only been seven years, I have seen this new system running at a capacity well above what the original could have coped with, designing for the future costs money, and building this what we call the Monk, pretty much cost a few thousand £, however it was well worth the investment as there are also incorporated in the runway grids to stop fish loss, accompanying photos show before during and after.
