Sunday the 1st of October, the winter 2023 has arrived, quietly and very pleasant, thank goodness, it’s been probably one the best weeks at the fishery for a long time, yesterday Saturday was a great day for fishing, I had a good cruise round the loch looking for problems there were 3 dead fish presumably bird struck, which is not uncommon, this week I want to tell you about our success in the Wellbeing group, how it came about, at the Goldenloch have always been keen to support beginners and youngsters that are keen to go fishing, we help by giving rods reels and more importantly flies that are gifted to me, I buy boxes and sort out the flies into types, these I gift to the anglers that I deem to need them, I am sure that many dozens of you have received these as well, personally all this costs me very little except time and as all fishery operators will tell you that it can be sometimes something that is plentiful, we also were doing instruction and the instructor was Lloyd, it was him who came up with the idea of allowing members of a group that he was in, to come here to learn to fish, he would teach them, we would supply all the gear needed and that was over a year ago, now a year later we have a group of 10 plus, and they have secured their own funding gaining their own equipment, a barbeque { which is weekly event } a mini bus but the most important thing is that they find something to look forward to, they are a group that has a common bond in doing something that is not only interesting but it is challenging, it is fun, they have fun, they laugh share experiences enjoying the surroundings, this is what fly fishing can do : this week’s report especially Thursday the Perth and District Wellbeing Group Gregor Sneddon 6 returned on yellow damsels, Adam O 3 got away and 1 returned, Wayne 1 Killed, Lloyd 1 returned, Lizzy 1 gently returned, and George Todd 4 rainbows returned, 1 kept, plus1 Perch yellow dancer, comments were { Great day again, plenty fish showing, everyone enjoying the day even the weather, The day before Wednesday which was extremely windy Alan Hyndman, returned plus 6 lost all mostly dry flies Midas and Hoppers all before storm Agnes, today Sunday, John Bashford 7 returned, Rod Thaw 20 + returned, A Leitch 6 returned, Johnston and Johnston and floating fry, Mr Fairweather cruncher floating fry, Mr Tallack, damsel fly nymph, G McKay 1 returned, C McKay 4 returned, John Cowie returned, Sandy Band on Friday had 9 as did Scott Fraser from Dundee as you can see things are much better than they were
