Much better weather this week, Saturday was crazy though as we had strong wind all day, previous to that we had some really good days, the regulars Alec and Sandy continue to outshine everyone else they just quietly sit in more or less the same place and catch loads of fish, John Basford had 4 on Tuesday, Brian Stewart was on 10, Jock Souter had a couple on Monday, Rod Thaw had 7 this morning but was only here for a few hours, Others include Mark Chesser and Dave Nicoll who are beginning to master the art of Fly Fishing, Billy Pride had 5 (perch ) as did Alec Cuthbert, Colin Hay out on Thursday night 3 trout on Pearly Wickams plus nearly 30 perch, Donald Robertson 2 on CDCs, Harry F 3 trout and 4 perch On Saturday the stormy day Dunfermline Angling club had an enjoyable day 9 fish for 16lbs they also returned 12, all enjoyed there day, the wind was wild but still fishable. The weed problem has pretty much gone now, the water is nice and clear, after the gale all the little bits were blow to the end where I scooped them out, however I am aware that there are huge patches where there is approx 4 to 5 feet clear with a weed bed underneath, this is where I suspect a massive number of the fish are lying, firstly to get away from the bright sun and secondly, it is stuffed with feeding, i.e. shrimp, pee muscle, mollusc’s you name it and it’s there, however, I have decided to get some fish from a different supplier, just to see if I can get the fishing at loch out of the doldrums, a different strain of trout which are normally aggressive will sort out the ones that are complacent, at the moment they seem to have stopped feeding off the surface, preferring to be lying on the loch floor, this is pretty usual for this time of year, however a new stock of completely different fish may just be what’s needed, I have spoken with lads that have been fishing at lots of other local fisheries and they say that the fish at other places are behaving exactly the same as the fish here, in fact some of these lads say that there are more fish here than what they see elsewhere. We are having problems just now with our beginner / instruction lessons done, our full time instructor has moved to a different area, trying to get through to him is impossible as his phone signal doesn’t work where he lives, the temporary replacement has had a heart problem and until that is fixed he can’t drive, there is another lad but as yet I have been unable to speak with him, so unfortunately we cannot get any tuition done, I can only apologise to those that are waiting.
