I have no idea this week about how or why, what is happening at the fishing just now, it seems like the fishing has just switched off, or that the fish just aren’t that interested, some lads still however are doing very well, Rod Thaw yesterday said he was having a great day, and he even went as far as to give up his place where he was catching fish, not once but twice, he was catching loads, others just struggled, just now its 8.30 on Sunday morning and I have just returned from a jaunt down to the loch, it is bursting with fish feeding on the surface plus there are zillions of swallows feeding on insects, personally I think there is just so much feeding in the loch that the fish are stuffed with flies and insects, it is a proper feeding frenzy. A few lads are still getting their quota though, Ronnie Forsyth with his lad Lewis on the bank and yes Lewis on the ball at least one for the pot, to be fair the weed is well under control the Algal bloom has been and gone, the water temperature has fallen, insects are abundant its now all about enjoying a days sport at the “Goldenloch” those coming are more or less all getting fish, maybe not the large numbers they want, but the fish are there to be caught, Mr Beaumont and son out today really windy 8 to the boat, A Gourley 2 returned, Rod Thaw 14, R McAulay 3, Billy Moyes 5, Geoff Gadd 5 olive damsel, Ian Graham early morning 14 lost loads, John Bowman 11 lost 3 + 2 Perch, Ray Gandy 3, John Bashford 2, so that’s the sort of results for some but there are others that had 1s and 2s and the occasional blanks, however we seem to have lost a few anglers never to be seen again and gained a few, Sport fly fishing is in decline, the lads that Fly Fish should realise this and support small still waters as much as they can, fish are almost double the price they were a few years ago, plus the costs of having fishery are getting higher, how some places can afford the wages or support paying a rent is getting to the point that the price to fish should be much higher, but we get there and the most important thing for us is that clients enjoy and appreciate what we have to offer.
