Good morning all sorry this is a bit late today, yesterday Sunday was a much better day than Saturday, which wasn’t a great day to go fishing, well not here anyway, our fish are showing themselves, everywhere, hundreds of them but they cant be tempted with anything, a couple of lads did well, but everyone else just couldn’t find anything to temp them with, don’t get me wrong 1 and 2s were being caught but nothing super special, personally I don’t think the water is warm enough, when you dip your hands in you really cant hold them in for long, the wildlife is picking up nicely, Osprey visits are almost daily, the marsh harriers, two pairs I Reckon, are settling in nicely, swallows, house martins are here, no woodpecker yet, but there was a cuckoo calling on Thursday which I would say is early, most definitely there has been a huge reduction in small birds, robins and blackbirds seemingly there was a confirmed outbreak of Avian Flu a couple of miles away from here, sometime around mid-January, which was when we had the snow, frost, there were a lot of dead birds about outside, but being honest, there always is during hard frost especially nowadays as farmers gain stores are sealed up tight, there is a dearth of birds just now and I am hoping warmer weather will be here soon, we have loads of baby rabbit’s but then we always do, a few beginner’s this past week, Chris and Maia turned up late on Saturday night fishing into the dark Maia had one on but lost it, the usual guys doing very well Rod Thaw, D Wilson using black buzzers had a jaw dropping 29 fish, Jim Anderson getting 8 again black buzzers, George Duff also on 8, Debbie McConnacher and Derek Mc Donough well they landed right in the middle of rising fish everywhere, and had a great day masses of takes, John Cowie 5 on shipman’s and daddies, was teaching a complete newbie Lee Mitchell, who eventually caught 1. So this week that is 5 newbies now interested in Fly Fishing, on a lighter note I have to say that Jock Souter is definitely getting much better Friday saw him catching 5 on his own tied flies, its getting there slowly the fishing this weeks warmer weather should help a lot.
