Oh boy, another tough week, when I was really hoping things would pick up, but they kind of have a wee bit, however we have had a light attack of green water, it is very unusual at this time of year, it’s an early algal bloom, another loch nearby has it as well, seemingly it happens there every year, thankfully ours thankfully is beginning to clear, in the middle at the far end and that’s where the fish are concentrated, but in saying that down at the outlet end, there are plenty fish being caught, we usually have a massive amount of natural feeding on the loch bottom ( maybe not so much just now because of the recent cold weather ) very soon it will start to multiply, it needs a chance to do this, by not over stocking fish, especially bigger fish, the invertebrates, shrimp, beetles, nymphs, can get a real good start in there life cycle, which in essence is what dry fly fishing is all about, for those that enjoy using dry flies, the season will be upon us soon, weed is important to the flies and fish and a really close inspection, has shown that we have pretty much got weed where we need it, This week we have seen numerous fish moving in or just under the surface, near the edges which is definitely great as they seem to be foraging for something, Rod Thaw out on Saturday did well with 12, Callum Ford on 4, his pal Scott Spence I Killed, Darin Taylor 3, and Iain Graham 14 top rod for the day, Friday was really col Alec Cuthbert only getting 3, Geoff Gadd had a cracking 1.5lb Perch, Lloyd John doing well on Thursday had 11, now that the Clocks have changed and us nearly into April, lets hope for some more changes well for a start its going to be a lot brighter in the Mornings and that should help bring the fish on.
