Wowie it’s the end of January, I wonder what is going to happen this next Month, Isn’t January Horrible, it is so cold and full of viruses, like flu colds and stuff however its passed now, we are soon to be blessed with February either cold and wet or not so cold and dry, looking at the weather predictions, these pictures of winds, plus the jet stream, that the met office put up, it seems to erring on the latter which for me would be great, if there are cormorants about and they get into the water they seem to drive the fish towards the shore, there are a couple of weedy spots and that’s where the fish go too, however my endeavours to keep the cormies down are working, Yesterday saw Darin Taylor fishing mid channel up the jetty side of the loch getting 5 three of which he said were well over 3 lbs perhaps even 4, Jim and George out this week which was great to see them plus my group of hardy lads from Perth and District, great to see them catching fish, I really am hoping that the straw bales that was put in September will control the blanket algae, the bales have to be in for at least 6 months so as to give of whatever it is that kills the blanket algae, which is a most horrible pesty scum that floats about on the surface after bubbling up from the floor in April, if it does work then we should have some epic Fly Fishing in April and May, the shore lines are completely free from any form of weed cover just now which makes landing fish so easy and clean no weed to contend with, the only problem that I can see is that we have ground weed growing in two areas, which if anglers are fishing deep they are catching weed, with new fish going in soon as this could be an early start to the season they need to get acclimatised to the water and feeding, hopefully we will see better catches, but there are loads and there are loads of Tiger trout whatever happened to them, the only person that seems to catch them regularly is Rod Thaw who had 9 this week, plus of course Sand Band he gets a few, Friday past was bitter cold Alec and Andrew even succumbed to the conditions as did Sandy and Jock who was here early and was absolutely frozen the fish were deep down just not interested in being caught well that’s JANUARY I’m afraid at least it’s over Thank Goodness
