A few out on Saturday, which started with heavy rain then ended up after 9am near perfect all day, Rod Thaw sent me a message that he thoroughly enjoyed his days winter fishing, which is a great encouragement, to myself, it makes me want to do and make things better, However today, Sunday is absolutely miserable, what with last night, a howling wind, squally showers, I am in the office today watching the world pass by on my security cameras, but kind of wondering how this season is going to pan out, it all depends on the weather, but with the current trend of global warming, it should be a pretty safe bet that there is going to be a lot more of sunshine, so last year I was slow to react to the weed situation, I actually allowed it to grow to big in June / July that was a huge mistake, this year I will be on it quicker, but I will, like I did this year allow the weed to grow untrimmed at the far end, that was a massive plus, as will be vouched by many of the diehard dry fly fishers, it is my intention to continue with the methods we use here to help promote the DRY FLY FISHING, we stock silently (unannounced) good numbers of quality fish, allowing them to acclimatise to the copious amounts of natural feeding, not trickle feeding large fish often, so as they are always easy caught, as they are still looking for the artificial food they are fed on, I am pretty sure that it was never intended that fly fishing should become a sport of huge numbers, Big Size, Amount Caught, it was always meant to be a sport for pleasure and relaxation, OK 100 years ago when Fly Fishing was in its infancy, it was only the wealthy that could indulge, and in being a new hobby then, it was hard to catch fish with the equipment they had, however today it’s a different story Rods, Reels, Line and Flies are so sophisticated that on reading the reports, one wonders how much pleasure is gained by some lads on their days fishing, there is however a blend in what I have just described, when a guest while fly fishing catches his Personal Best, on his favourite rod, using a home tied dry fly, off the surface on a wonderful warm day, on a boat amongst likeminded anglers, Yep that’s how it should be, just ask Capt. Kemp
