“The Goldenloch”
Fishery Blog, Monday, 12/09/2022,
This past week has been crazy in many ways, the fishery now full of water, after being at its lowest for 30+ years, had a couple of days where you could actually watch the fish gorging on all the stuff that was getting washed in by the huge rainfalls, trout were chasing spiders, worms just everything, the water was chocolate brown for a day, but now is crystal clear, the water temperature is 15 degrees, perfect for fishing, yet the fishing is just a tad hard, fish are being caught but not in the numbers that was being caught some weeks ago, ( when the loch was full of weeds ) there are loads of fish in the loch, they can be seen in the water darting about, some are jumping, just not onto anglers flies, this happens most years around this time in the season and is why it is just know as “fishing in the Doldrums”, it is the time when the fish are most content they catch grub easily, then lie back in the mud, don’t get despondent though as catches can be got, yesterday Lloyd John had 5 CDC and dry flies, he also lost a few, Roy Kelly had 3 Perch and lost a few trout, George Duff’ did better on 6 returned using hoppers and Dries, John Bashford on 4 on Saturday and Malcolm Brown 1 trout on a muddler and a Perch, some people have not caught any Perch at all, Friday night was good Stuart Cameron 7 returned using CDC F Fly also 2 Perch and masses of trout follows, while Sandy Band Perth caught 8, Thursday saw John Bashford return 8 using a damsel, the day before John Bowman, Dundee, recovering from a disastrous session the week before caught 9 using his own demon flies and then Brian Kemp on using his own home tied dry flies managed 6, so the fishing isn’t all that bad, most fisheries like us this week, I would imagine are now stocking up due to the cooler weather, and like us need more clients fishing, what is needed badly is a consorted common effort by all fisheries to encourage new bods, Male, Female young and old to take up fishing, we have a new fishery starting in Fife soon and take this opportunity to wish them well for the future, It’s a tough world out there but new anglers would help make it a lot easier, wouldn’t it be great if all the effort that was put into running Fly Fishing Competitions could be channelled into teaching youngster’s to learn to fish, Just a dream ???
