“The Goldenloch”
Fishery Blog, Monday, 04/09/2022,
September has arrived, at last a full nights rain, its great to see some stormy weather back again, although yesterday, Saturday must have been the most perfect day for fishing ever, forecasters predicted heavy rain and winds during the day, but it did not arrive till 11pm, during the day it was pretty normal, this last week saw some crazy days, really hard fishing, it made me sit a do a fish count of approximately how many fish are in the loch, so allowing for natural deaths ( including Osprey, Otter, Gulls, bad handling, theft, Etc ) the resulting answer has come out at 65 fish / fishable acre in other words 780 fish, now that for this time of year is a pretty good number, so what caused the hard fishing, well the O2 level was 9 mg/l which is excellent, ( approx 12 % ) the water clarity was Secchi at 3meters ( Crystal Clear) , so the only other explanation was the air pressure, and last week it was all over the place rising and falling almost every 2 hours, this coupled with a Cool East wind breeze made the fishing hard, but as one lad said Fishing in late August is a time for trying out new flies and lines, it’s all about getting ready for the winter season ahead, fishing can be hard at this time of year but some lads can do well, Jim Anderson, Perth had 6 using Olive Damsels, S Cameron 3 returned, Roy Kelly 2 + 2 lost, Scott Fraser 4 and 6 Perch, Mark Chesser 7 returned no Perch Lol, Colin Hay 3 returned dropped 2 at the net, Alec Cuthbert 5 trout on a fab, Brian Kemp 4, John Bashford 4 returned on Shipman’s buzzers, John Bowman 8 Returned, oldest anglers I Brown and Tam Duguid doing well a few troot and 2 Percy Perch, D McMillan of the bank had 1 tiger, 1 rainbow, 2 Perch on shipman’s buzzers, Daren Taylor has been doing well these last few trips with regular catches as is John and Bob Cowie 10 Perch, + 1 trout, however Johnston and Johnston had 6 trout and 9 Perch, as did Roy Kerry with 0 trout and 3 Perch, so week one of trying to trap the Pesky Perch hasn’t worked very well, 5 traps set and nil poi, Zero, nuthin, but my throw net has arrived I just need to find an active shoal, Lots of plans for improvements soon.
