“The Goldenloch”
Fishery Blog, Monday, 22/08/2022,
The Catches continue, however it would seem that the amount of Perch and the size of them continue to grow as well, we introduced these Perch back in 2019 basically to help control the stickle back population, which had expanded dramatically that year, it pretty much they have done their job, sticklebacks eat hatching flies and the small microscopic bugs, buzzers in the loch floor, the things trout live on, what happened that year was fish stopped rising to flies, as there was nothing hatching ( due mostly to the massive amount of Sticklebacks ) { I put down traps, in one day caught thousands } thankfully now we have restored an equilibrium to the loch, fish rises are back to normal, this morning I have just been down to the loch for the catches book, there are very active feeding trout everywhere, all anglers have done well this past week, Stewart Gunn, 7 returned, Rod Thaw 8 good night, Allan Mills and Jimmy Murray having a great day 2 each, Grant McGregor 18, Colin Hay 8 +12 Perch, Sandy Band 5, S Cameron &, K Dickson 6, K Cooke 5, J Bashford 6, Ryan Mathison 4 + 4, John Cowie 5, Darin Taylor 9 had an amazing day, G and J C Robertson 8 between them, but the theme in the book is that people had loads of offers, tugs which is great, the Algal bloom that covered about 40% of the loch, has reduced to the bottom edge, clear water is back, Yesterday we had a casting clinic, 5 lads out of 6 getting tips and help on there casting abilities from Brian McGlashan, Kirkcaldy, Brian a specialist in casting instruction www.flyfishscotland.co.uk but is willing and able to instruct anyone in the ability to catch any and all fish, the lads all enjoyed the session and pretty much will be putting these hot tips to good use, a day well spent, then onto the loch with new found enthusiasm Cameron Parkin the youngest by far at 15 suddenly started to find his new skill was working and enjoyed his few hours getting 6 trout.
