“The Goldenloch” 30/05/2022,
Fishery Blog, May, Monday, Week 22.
So I think we have just had the best weekends fishing ever at the “Goldenloch”, so why has it been so good, well everybody coming fishing has thoroughly enjoyed there time with us, the fish are showing themselves in abundance, the water is crystal clear, YES we have got weed and we are dealing with it, however the fish being caught are all being caught on dry flies, even today a novices after a few hours coaching caught a proper old timer 3+ lb fit rainbow, that’s a thing about fishing here with us, the mixture of naturalised old school and some new fish is very good, we are not stocking wee drops every week and putting up videos saying just stocked come and fish our easy caught trout, here it’s been all dry flies, and I mean nearly all the fish being caught are on the surface chasing flies the hatches are huge and last for a few hours every few hours, even the last couple of days in what was a cold east wind the fishing was great, earlier this week there was a constant cold blustery wind blowing, I am sure in many other places it would have made fishing virtually impossible, but fortunately for us it wasn’t like that, however a few trusty lads were out Colin Hay, Kirkcaldy had 8 all released on yellow sedge hogs, and Dunkeld’s, Alec Cuthbert 14 on buzzers Black spiders, Sandy Band Peth 8 C&R CDCs yellow owls, Lloyd John 11 on dry flies, Les Mitchell 6 returned with 4 buddies, Ian Simpson 4 returned, Stuart Penman 7 Returned, Douglas Anderson with 1 and Hamish McDonald Nil Pois, Stewart Cameron on a late afternoon evening session 12 with yellow Owls, + a bunnet, Huff and Puff back again 13 and 5 on yellow Owl CDCs, Saturday saw Grant McGregor back on form on 15 with Diawl Bachs, Mike Guild 6 dry flies, John Highfield 2 on hoppers & Owls, Brian (Kapt) Kemp 5 on various dries and buzzers, Rod Thaw 10, David Wilson 7 + 1 Kept, George Duff 4 on dries from the bank, so good to see B Finnie out this week after all the covid stuff, its great to see old faces but its really good that the fishing is back to pre-pandemic days, the wildlife is beginning to take off again with the Osprey and marsh Harrier making regular visits, crested newts are getting swallowed by the harrier as are the frogs, swallows and swifts are hear not in vast quantities, but can be seen, worth looking at is the weed when I pull it out which is teaming in grubs, Photographer this week is mostly local lad John McRobbie Abernethy.
