Fishery Blog, May, Monday, Week 19.
Pretty sure that most if not all fisheries had a great week this past week, it’s been much better for everybody, because of the weather especially in the evenings, but cold mornings and easterly breezes are still causing a problem to anglers, some chaps unfortunately are suffering, John Basford a regular plus an early morning angler, has been getting caught out with the cold mornings returning a couple of Blanks, however his faith was restored last night by fishing in an evening session, but generally the fishing has been outstanding, with the yellow owl being the fly to have, blanket weed is beginning to grow where there once were weeds which is pretty annoying, but the water just now is crystal clear, S Fyffe, Malcolm Brown had a good spell Malcolm using yellow owls 3 to the boat Kaptain Kemp t for the pot with a few returned, Huff and Puff dry fly fishers had 10 on an evening session, A Cuthbert 12 with his buddy Andrew Morgan getting 8, Jim Anderson on yellow Owls had 3 on a short session, Les Mitchell losing 3 but catching 1 and his buddy Stuart losing 4 catching 2, Bank Holiday Monday saw S Cameron catch 7, R Cameron 3 and Stevie getting 1 although he had masses of follows, So why is all this happening, it would seem that in the evening there are two things happening a massive hatch of tiny white midge flies followed by or along with a hatch of Alderflies, now these are not the Caddis fly but is something similar, the trout love them, why because they have a larvae stage in coming to the surface also they pupate on the surface and then fly away generally they are 15mm in length, but if you lean over the boat and focus on the water you will see masses of insects and bugs in the water, this week also saw the return of swallows and a few house martins but nothing like what there should be.
