“The Goldenloch”
22-August-2021, Fishery Blog, Week 34.
Everybody this week that’s fished at “The Goldenloch” have had action of some kind, the fish are super fighting fit, are giving a good account of themselves, this weekend saw a group of beginner’s getting a lesson in how to fish, its encouraging when this happens and its even better when some catch, but in this case when fish are active, however, it’s been a weird week tough weather wise, but the fishing has been interesting, a couple of times low air pressure has put the dampers on, but thankfully short lived, On Saturday at the far end of the loch near our large conservation area, which is intentionally left completely untouched, it has reeds growing in 2 to 3 feet of fresh clean water its like a sanctuary for injured trout to return too for convalescing, Rod Thaw was fishing there on the boundary, catching 18 fish, his comments were that the fish were strong and fighting well, today Sunday Jim Hodge and Janus Wodzinski, fishing at the same spot had 7, all returned using Klinks, Sedge, CDC Emerger, great sport and great fish, S Anderson at the other end of the loch had 5, 2 killed, Olive Emerger, Beetle while George Murphy had 1 on a yellow owl, Stan Codling on has annual visit 2 killed + 2 released on dries, great day, Geoff Gadd 5 C&R Zulu, S Cameron 3 C&R Hawthorn fly, Derek Robertson 8 C&R deer hair sedge, Scott Fraser 3 Yellow owl , Best this week has to be Donald Robertson 5 C&R on CDC, and Colin Dow 6 C&R on a green black lure, a visit from the dry specialist Brian Imrie who had 2 C&R using yellow owls, Nice to see Grant McGregor back from his hols and back on form 7 C&R, Colin Hay enjoying his evening sessions and Brian Kemp getting good catches with his own flies, Jock Souter back on form as was Eddie Henderson and A Cuthbert + A Morgan. However my secret weapon is just about to be unleased, this year I really needed something that was easy to use in the fight against the weeds, I think we found it in the form of a cable puller, 3 X 1000 meter cables to stretch out over the loch and then pull my wire ropes which in turn drag out the weeds, it will be tried in a trial run but I really don’t see it not working, all in all its been a good solid week this week just what the doctor ordered, no Malcom Brown though I do hope he is well, on a sad not this week saw Willie Robertson pass away, From Dundee he used to come every week for many years, always cheery and always catching fish with his old fashioned flies, bringing his grandson and Brian Stewart, RIP Willie, I am sure you will be finding a place to fish up there.
Fly Fishing is a Pastime, it is not only relaxing, but also rewarding, both mentally and physically, come to the “Goldenloch” enjoy your Hobby to the max, no stress, only tranquil surroundings abundant wildlife, great fish, Brown, Blues and Rainbows, you will not be disappointed.
