“The Goldenloch”
02-August-2021, Fishery Blog, Week 31.
At the “Goldenloch” there is always somewhere to catch fish, somewhere that is unique, currently we have an area at the far end of the loch where the fish are in large numbers, are feeding hard, plus darting in all directions, lads fishing are having a ball fishing this area and are getting fish, its not easily but they are challenged by what to use, believe me when I say the fish are in large numbers and are very fly sensitive, it makes for great sport and with the recent weather conditions some light relief to those fishing, conditions just now are getting much better, the water clarity is still good not nearly as clear as it was but still pretty good, weed control is better with very little in the channel next to the jetties, out in the main area we have large weed free areas, then bits that are weedy giving good cover for fish to shelter from the bright sun, customer satisfaction is high at the moment, which is good as going for a spot of fishing, it is great therapy, especially fly fishing, fishing here is not about catching 10/20/+ fish it’s about finding a fly that the fish are wanting and then getting the fish interested, Friday night saw a few fishing and I believe our Brownie with the one eye was caught again, last seen about two years ago the guesstimate then was about 4lbs, now it is guesstimate of about 6.5lbs, for the fish we nicknamed, “Sockeye”, Colin Hay 5, C&R, Neil Craigie 3 C&R, George Duff 9 C&R, Derek Robertson 6 C&R, Steve Coote and Stuart Cameron had a fish each while Brian Kemp had 4 C&R, it was Geoff Gadd that caught and returned the brown trout + released 6 more Rod Thaw 9 C&R , having his best day for years was Jim Anderson, Perth, 11 C&R, and Les Mitchell had a bumper day with 8 also losing, a few guys using dry flies for the first time and catching fish and really enjoying the sport, I must say that in the early morning and early evening there are good rises, best fun has to be Darin Taylor who spent his morning tying up some dry flies after a trip here a couple of days before memorising the loch flies he then arrived here with his ammunition and proceeded to catch 5 which he released, his day was a very happy pleasant one.
Fly Fishing is a Pastime, it is not only relaxing, but also rewarding, both mentally and physically, come to the “Goldenloch” enjoy your Hobby to the max, no stress, only tranquil surroundings abundant wildlife, great fish, Brown, Blues and Rainbows, you will not be disappointed.
