“The Goldenloch”
31-May-2021, Fishery Blog, Week 22.
To say I am gutted is an understatement, some things in life are meant to try our mental wellbeing, two weeks ago we had a massive blanket weed onslaught, normally this happens only once a year, however it over the past two days it has happened again, the loch is just solid with floating Blanket weed, give it its due however it has to be the strongest, thick pure weed ever, actually its not a weed its an algae, so for nine years we have resisted buying any form of herbicides or substances only relying on salts and formulas of natural products so as the fish quality is at the purest it can be, I have today purchased a Blanketweed control that states is 100% fish friendly and will cause no harm to insects and flies ( The Answer To ‘NO More’ Blanketweed, – No More Blanket is an infusion of minerals, enzymes & additives that is 100% safe for use with all pond fish, pond plants and filter systems. A single treatment is generally all that is required, however can be added as required.) So lets see what happens, However fishing in this can be a bit of a chore some people cant and some can, two lads today both had there best days fishing ever, also George Duff Leven using only dry flies had nine all of the surface in the thickest of the weed, Brian Kemp, Kirkcaldy gave up as he said he was catching to much weed, Lol, Arthur Thom, Edinburgh, was using CDCs and shipman’s buzzers had 7, hid comment was that it reminded him of when he learnt to fish on a small loch in a forest near Blairgowrie, today it brought back for him fond memories, learned to cast into the clear bits and fish rising showing a white underbelly, tomorrow if the wind is right I am hoping to have all the floating stuff removed, But this week has been pretty good, Brian Imrie, Kinglassie, fishing with his new cane rod had 6 on his own flies, he really enjoyed his session as he is passionate about how he fishes, Colin Hay, Kirkcaldy, fishing Sunday night evening session amongst the floating blanket weed had 12 on Hardys Gold Butcher, Gold Muddler / Green Muddler, Silver Invicta, “Great night lost loads, However its been a great week and now with the warmer weather its all good fun and loads of rest and relaxation. Fly Fishing is a Pastime, it is not only relaxing, but also rewarding, both mentally and physically, come to the “Goldenloch” enjoy your Hobby to the max, no stress, only tranquil surroundings abundant wildlife, great fish, Brown, Blues and Rainbows, you will not be disappointed.
