“The Goldenloch”
12-April-2021, Fishery Blog, Week 15.
I wrote last week that it was much better weather now, that changed pretty quick, suddenly we have winds from the North, snow showers, freezing mornings, all that has made the fishing crap at the moment, our fish are so well acclimatised { now not freshly stocked }, also there available loads of natural feeding, they are very low in the water, plus the fish due to the cold just arnt very active, it’s not the lack of fish, on the contrary there is a huge amount of fish in the water, guys are still catching though, in the mornings, Ali today had 8 I think with 5 of them having blood worms and snails attached, Rod Thaw and Dave Wilson had a good day yesterday, plenty of fish caught but most important loads of offers, most guys visiting are leaving having caught a few, Darin Taylor managed 3 on a very cold morning, Jock Souter, Auchtermuchty had 6 using Buzzers / nymphs / cormorant flies, all from the bank which has been hard lately so he did well, A Morgan and A Cuthbert again having a lot of fun but the cold was really bitter, making their visit shorter, Westmill our main supplier are this year bringing to us, half a dozen large brown trout with every load of fish purchased this year, makes it seem like they are resident old brownies, however please feel free to take them as they are just new stocked fish however they should taste good, we do have a large head of brownies anyway in the loch, as we have stocked at least 300 every year for the last 4 years, today was the first day not having cormorants visiting but I did have a run past Lindores and there were literally hundreds on the water and in the trees, I can’t see any rainbows surviving there for long, soon I hope we will have some warmer weather with current travel restrictions in Scotland lifted, also my second vaccination should be soon and I assume then that most of my senior clients will then be fully protected as well, so great things to look forward for and some nice warm fishing. PS the last week has seen a huge improvement with my eyesight, it would seem that the brain can reorganise and put things in the right order it just takes time.
