“The Goldenloch”
January-24-01-2021, Fishery Blog, Week 04.
Not getting much done just now, except paperwork, it is however still freezing outside, I bought a new weather station last year replacing my old Maplin one which cost £30 and lasted for years, the new one cost a fair bit more but is now defunct, no longer sending any info to the main unit, have done the usual batteries, reset etc but on looking at the circuit board rust seems to have covered it and decay, so the daily air pressure readings, rainfall and wind I miss seeing, as you can pretty much guess what kind of day it will be for fishing, its amazing how poor the fishing can be when the air pressure drops, the opposite is true it can be outstandingly good as it rises, also the rainfall figures this past year were nuts, with 4 days where the amount of rain that fell exceeded the capacity that the device could monitor, on these days the water level in the loch rose dramatically, all year the water level has run at full capacity and that’s the first time since 1985 / 86, several years ago or perhaps more a lad told me how to make a fishometer, yep sounded a bit fishy then and probably is, basically it has to be a very long clear plastic tube I think he said 9 meters and fill it with a coloured water, leaving one end open and the other sealed, the pipe then is attached somewhere with the ends at the same height, like in a large U, now what you do is at the end that is open put a board up with a white back, marking the coloured water level, this is now the fun part, every day anglers make there mark and note the conditions, eventually it will be noted if the fishing is better or worse at certain levels, the gent that told me all this said he had one and it was 100% accurate, I would imagine he is long since gone now he used to live and work in Dundee, I will make one day just to see if it works
Our remit has always been since 1986, is that fishing the “Goldenloch” is a day out, a day when a hobby becomes a pleasure, anglers are here to relax, enjoying the atmosphere, no interruptions, in safety with no unwanted background noise, tranquil surroundings, abundant genuine wildlife, Finest quality, hard fighting, guaranteed, boat or bank you decide.
