“The Goldenloch”
September-14th-2020-Week-36
Anglers fortunes are changing, over this last weekend, which by the way was one of the most blustery windy one for a long time, some amazing fishing was to be had, catches were really good, very few left without having caught a few fish, the thing is its proper fishing just now, not stocky bashing, where the fish will take anything slightly resembling a trout pellet, its FLY FISHING, a lot have been getting caught using dry flies, Les Cowan had 6 one evening, all on dries, Mike Farrell, 3 using a Black Spider on the surface, one lad had a huge amount of fun using a float tube, which used to be popular a few years ago, Bob Mitchell returned 8 and had a good day, Rod Thaw returning 11, Ian Tindal returning 7 including a brownie, its usual at this time of year just as the brown trout start to go out of season that they start to get caught, Tam Smith and Freddie Gray had a good day sport with 10 between them, the fish are active in all areas, with the water crystal clear the fish can see flies that are being presented to them from a long distance as was demonstrated on Tuesday last week a young lad being taught by his father fishing on the first jetty eventually started to get the hang of casting and not really managing every time, perhaps every third time was annoying a fish as it kept torpedoing towards the fly he was using, which was reasonably heavy and had no hook, (snipped off for safety ) this spectacle was on going and lasted for over an hour, the fish would swim away only to return at a vast rate of knots only to see the fly vanish, as the young lad continually lifted it out the water, this lad “Arthur” has benefited immensely by the generosity of anglers visiting and handing in equipment and flies etc a rod and a complete fly box ( No angler ever has enough Flies) it’s a huge boost and a complete surprise when someone gets a gift especially flies I am waiting of a few of the new style fly cases as then these lads will be up to spec so to speak. I can only say a big THANK-YOU to those that have handed in stuff. I have another 3 lads that I Know will be so happy to get a fly box,
