“Goldenloch”
December-02nd– 2019, Week 47
Another cold, frosty and wet week @”The Goldenloch”, isn’t it such mixed up weather, as a child I used to watch and pay attention to the BBC weather forecasters and was always fascinated by the way the Highs and Lows moved about all over the UK, in those days it was all done by measurement, and I guess just predictions, not like today where we have satellites’ monitoring every move in the skies, nine years ago yesterday we awoke to an overnight snow fall of nearly 12 inches, but in the last 20 or so years there have been many quick snowfalls that only last a day or two, for example we just have had four days of frosty conditions and the temperature outside is +5.3 degrees if we had snow it would be melting quick today, so how does this affect the fishing, well for sure in a water that has natural fish (not stocky fishing) the fish will be pretty low in the water, we have here @ the “Goldenloch” an area that has never been touched i.e. no weed pulling or cutting, and it is just heaving with fish as Willie Watson, Leslie Mitchell, Colin Hay and others will verify what the fish are doing is nobodies idea, other than they are feeding on something, trying to find out what that is, is fun and that what angling should be all about, years ago I got really fed up with some guys who used to come here and selectively fish, only killing the big ones that they caught, I now read about them and see there pictures on Fb, it was the way they handled the ones that they didn’t want that caused me to ask them to fish elsewhere, OK they are only fish, but guys that catch loads are the ones that should respect the way that they handle the fish, we have supplied nets for years and I will be buying more soon, however taking, lifting fish out of a net is not necessary when it is being released, a lot of fish just now are in the margins as the water there is about 2 degrees warmer and the grub (small insects) like these slightly warmer conditions so this is where there is good fishing.
Fly Fishing is a Pastime, it is not only relaxing, but also rewarding, come to the “Goldenloch” enjoy your Hobby to the max, no stress, only tranquil surroundings abundant wildlife, great fish, Brown, Blues and Rainbows, you will not be disappointed.
