“Goldenloch”
May-27th – 2019, Week 19
It ha not been a very busy week, but then its again been a week of mixed weather conditions, a huge amount of changing wind, why this is happening I have no idea, a gentleman angler and a weather buff once told me it was because we had a huge mix of really hot and cold days, giving the result of a very changeable wind, but yesterday was weird, we had zero wind only a light breeze all day and it was cold, interestingly the temperature of the water in the loch has dropped 2 degrees this week, but the last seven days have thrown up some good results Eddie Henderson, Perth 5 all returned, P Cachia 5 all on buzzers all returned, K Andrew 5 returned, J Easton 6, Brian Stewart Dundee 10, Grant McGregor 5, D Robertson 7, Huff and his mate Stewart from Aberdeen 14 fishing late, it is an interesting fact that we as fishery operators say things like the fish are rising, when we really mean that fish can be seen up on the surface, I do and say that myself, nowadays to see an actual proper fish rise is quite rare, compared to what it used to be like say 20 years ago, this year so far its happened only a few times, it is triggered by a condition or something on the loch floor triggering an insect hatch/Buzzers which then rise to the surface metamorphosing as they go upwards into a fly of some description and as this happens a distinct noise or pheromone excites the fish into feeding and what happens is all the fish burst into feeding at one time, Matt Donaldson, Kinglassie, an accomplished angler has twice here this year in the last two weeks had the privilege of being in a boat whilst this has happened all about him, the beauty is that whilst the hatch is happening it gives some amazing fishing, I am sure we will see many more such happenings, what I will say is that the way that we stock here at the “Goldenloch” our aquaculture methods go a long way to encouraging events such as this.
