“Goldenloch”
April-29th – 2019, Week 16
With May two days away, things at the fishery are shaping up nicely for what looks like a great start, to the proper “Fly Fishing Season”, all the guff being talked about, catching on this or that, pales into insignificance when the Dry Fly Fishing starts, which is beginning to happen, so how and when does things change, well Springtime is the spark, then green shoots in the margins, followed by the water warming, sunshine, copious amounts are a great help as this is what warms the mud and sediment on the loch floor, and it starts, hatches begin, in the olden days and I am only talking about 30 odd years ago, an angler could set his watch more or less as when to go fishing, but now that’s not the case, I am pretty sure “Global Warming” has changed things dramatically, for example, sedge fly hatches are really erratic, as is the cannis flies, both used to happen nearly every day now sometimes days apart, feeding fish well we are lucky here as there is a copious amount of grub in the water, but you always know when there is a great hatch when the Sand martins, Swallows, and Swifts appear, sometimes flocks of seagulls all to feed on a hatch of flies, Yesterday Sunday was a weird kind of day, lots of anglers and fish being caught, but not the fish that were on the surface, not the feeding fish but the ones underneath being enticed, it wasn’t until 8pm in the early dark of the day, till the sole angler Matt Donaldson, Kinglassie, suddenly had fish boiling all around him, one of the first rises of 2019, accompanied by thousands of bats, up till that point he had caught 2 and then he had a further 7 all in a very short space of time, yep its still proper fly fishing, we strive here to try and make this happen, ensuring that its quality fish in a quality environment, weed control by pulling and leaving selective areas is what its all about plus a huge reserve of natural feeding, However it needs Homo sapiens, but a very special version, the ones that enjoy being outdoors, loves to be challenged, and most importantly the ones that just want to go “Fishing”
Fly Fishing is a Pastime, it is not only relaxing, but also rewarding, come to the “Goldenloch” enjoy your Hobby to the max, no stress, only tranquil surroundings abundant wildlife, great fish, Brown, Blues and Rainbows, you will not be disappointed.
