“Goldenloch”
April-21st– 2019, Week 15
Fantastic, amazing, absolutely fabulous, the Cuckoo and the Woodpecker both arrived this last week, as did the Sun, at last some really decent fishing, what a difference it makes when there is some heat in the sun, the whole atmosphere starts to change, fresh buds, new buds appear, the water has changed, its absolutely sparkling, people are much more relaxed, the Osprey seems to have relaxed into a routine, 7.00 am till 8.00am it takes a fish and again between 5.00pm and 6.00pm, the horrible black dying weed that has been floating in the margins has stopped, well nearly stopped, shoots of rushes are starting to grow in the margins, the little minnows plus the baby brown trout alevins that gave so much fun to anglers last year are back, but more importantly the fish are feeding and are feeding good, I would say for the first time this year, I would definitely say that we have fish up on the surface that are actually looking for grub, lots of places have said that they have had feeding fish, or rising fish up on the surface, and they have been saying that for the last few months, these are the places which openly advertise that they have just restocked, however it takes a fair bit of sunshine and a lot of water warming to encourage the fly life to kick-start into its next new season, and that has just happened the bright sun has managed to get its rays to the loch floor, For the anglers The Dry Flies have been out this past weekend, several lads using them, and getting great results, but more importantly there are loads of fish jumping and feeding on hatching flies, so what flies are hatching, well they are small black flies, pretty sure they are Alderflies and sponge flies some are about 25mm in length, they coming from dark green buzzers and this morning which was flat calm saw the surface covered in schucs, not sure if that’s a word but it means shells, last night which was warm saw a few moths fling about especially at the top of the loch and I am pretty sure they will have hatched from nymphs in the water around the rushes, everyone fishing in the last week have done well and with plenty fish in the water some catches have been amazing, its all good.
