Goldenloch
October – 07th – Week-40-2018
This year has seen a very quick introduction to winter, proper winter clothes should now be worn when going fishing, good quality clothes are normally thicker, therefore it is especially important that life jackets be worn, as the cold water can have a very quick effect on breathing should you slip and fall in, also heavy clothes can drag you down and make it difficult for others to help you out, I am not just talking about boat anglers, but all anglers, we keep lifejackets here that are free to use for all anglers, we would only ask that if they are jettisoned for whatever reason, a donation be paid of the refill value to the RNLI, the fishing is good just now {water temperature is a static 11 degrees} especially on warmer days, catches are significantly better, cold mornings and days with a cold wind makes it a tad harder, that is pretty much the drop in temperature to blame, a cold morning or a change in wind direction, very quickly can move a food source to a different place, fish like stability and anything that alters that, alters their natural feeding habit, however busting that, can be the fact that a contented fish, or one that has had a proper bellyful of grub, may be lying in a holt or hollow, may be enticed by some form of attractor or tasty nibble that an angler has designed, Neil Christie, Kirkcaldy, took up fly fishing this year, April, and without a doubt has improved at every visit, he had no idea on fly types or names, after years at trying to play Golf, he has now found a pastime / hobby that gives him great pleasure and satisfaction, whether he is own his own or partnered by his friend, other anglers are equally enjoying there time with us this year and its been a really good season, we had a wee blip with brown algae, but generally everyone visiting with us have had a very pleasant day, For next year we are holding our prices at the level they are at just now, so long as fish prices stay static, its just typical but this week there has been several Brown trout caught, I can also report that the brown trout alevins that hatched this year are now about 3 > 4 inches in length, are doing well, hopefully they will survive the winter and grow to become fully fledged wild brownies, only time will tell. This week Dave Lees, Eddie Henderson, A Cuthbert, Mike McIntosh, Neil Christie, Brian Kemp, John Bashford all had a fab day on Monday past, all catching and everyone using traditional flies, Diawl Bachs, Kate McLaren’s, vivas, Olive Wulff, Bibios, And small black Hawthorns, and the week continued like that L Gunn and J Darling 18 fish 14 returned, rod Thaw 9 all returned, Brian Kemp 6 returned, Yesterday in a pretty stormy day John Robertson lead the way with 6 fish, but he was cold, meanwhile all his buddies could do were two each, but it was very windy. How can I possibly just about forget that Sean Burger and Darin Taylor had a bumper day with Sean catching in his second cast a fully finned fighting brown trout at least 3 years old as that was the last time I put brown trout in but both lads had many all returned.
