Goldenloch
September -10th – Week-36-2018
The fishing @ “The Goldenloch” this week is really finding its feet again, after the recent algae bloom, which has now all but disappeared, however I must say that it has been very pleasing for us in genuine support from a huge amount of anglers, many turning up and fishing, when it was really hard to entice fish to take anything that was on offer, but with the demise of the algae has come with an unexpected bonus, in the form of even more crustations in the water, the pond life just now is amazing and very active, Has any body else noticed that there has been a huge change in the way fish behave this season, what I am referring too, is that from March till say July everything was pretty normal, there were lots of fish rising, and taking insects of the surface, here it was all day, every day, but since late July early August there has been so many fish just cruising with there fins out the water like little sharks, hundreds of bow waves and then the fish being caught just under the surface, (Diawl Bachs) also we had loads of fish launching themselves out the water after low flying flies (Damsels) during May and June, thinking, we that had Argulas, 30+ fish were examined, two, one by an angler friend and one by myself had what could have been a louse, so the jumping fish were definitely were after flies, or could have been just cleaning their gills, what ever it was it has started again as can be seen by the recent pictures, also we have had another mink which is now recently deceased, on a plus point we have thousands of baby Brownies, so that may be a reason the fish have been shoaling, well not that they are babies more like big minnows now, coming into winter its pleasing to see so much pond life in the water as it vital that the survival of fish and to get good overwintered fish we need a large insect bank. Lately there are more fisheries jumping onto the big fish thing and a lot of these fish are hardly in the water for a few days, its great for business and the reasons for doing it are purely financial, however it is really beginning to impact on the reputation of fly fishing which will I am sure will survive, of that I have no doubt, but the “Roll Up, Roll Up see what megasorus fish I have this week” is tainting what I believe is a beautiful and as near as perfect a hobby to relax with, sadly there are only a few left that actually enjoy it as a way of relaxation.
