Goldenloch
August 25th-Week-33-2018
I knew it was to good to be true, so the fishing has truly been amazing this year so far lots of first class super fit fish caught and returned, some amazing numbers of fish caught, even Huff and Puff having great days big fish well big for us up to 4 – 5 lbs, best angler has to have been the Ospreys and seriously we gave up counting when they got to over 300 fish, yep that’s right and probably the same again, but today well actually this week things have been getting much harder and yesterday it was obvious that we have got Brown Algae, so what is this, why is it affecting the fishing? Well unlike green algae, this one is according to two very well qualified fishery boffins, not actually an Algae, what we have is, in parts due to the recent hot weather and rapid weed growth, a tannin release, caused by and due to the weeds dying back, this tannin which is brown in colour, lies in the top part of the water (approx 1 foot) it is a barrier to the fish rising, as it fills the molecules in the water that is normally reserved for O2 (Oxygen) the fish are more than healthy underneath this they just wont come through it, what is happening is that the fish have gone down to the bottom and even although there a plenty fish its all gone a bit quite, but anglers can adapt and an example is Rod Thaw who just came off the water at 3.00 pm having had a great days fishing 5 returned he just absolutely loved the challenge.
