Goldenloch
August 20th-Week-33-2018
For some this, is a very important question / thought, “What is it that you, the Angler, enjoy love about the sport / hobby / pastime “Fly Fishing” the most?” my reason for asking is that there seems to be now so many different types / ways to go fly fishing, so many different places that operate a completely different way of presentation of the fish, I can only really comment on what happens at the Goldenloch, but I can vary my thoughts for example, we still strongly believe that most anglers enjoy the challenge of catching fish using traditional fly’s, as opposed to fishing lures or the new generation of attractors, the anglers that tie their own flies have basically a huge array of many different fly types of catching patterns to choose from, which then lead to how an angler fishes, either stripping lures, or the more subdued dry fly angling, slow retrieve methods or Buzzers fishing static, all of these need developed skills and that in itself becomes a achievement, fisheries can and often do present in a way a unique help to anglers, we here like our fish which are all a minimum kilo in size, to be settled and be totally converted to feeding on natural food, the surroundings are important for them with ample cover, places to hide from the sun, places to make a holt or even gravel for breeding, in contrast a different type of fishery introduce larger, often huge fish weekly, which are used to eating copious amounts of protein, catching these fish often just involves being present at the right time, usually a day or two after they are stocked, having the correct fly is not so important as the old saying goes, a big fish loves a fag butt, but all of these methods has a common goal and that is for every one that goes fly fishing to enjoy there fishing, this summer has proved to be a winner here, with dry fly fishing and buzzer fishing being basically at its best ever, the Diawl Bach nearly losing out to the Yellow Owl and its cousin the Suspender Buzzer, however this past week has seen a number of anglers using lures and stripping them through the water, which basically is not catching any or many fish, assuming that this is one of the preferred methods in many other fisheries, it just isn’t working here, so what is working, well with the book in front of me I can see, picking a small random selection of names, K Mackie, small black dry flies, Eddie Henderson, black Bi-visible?, P Cachie, small black CDC, Jim Pollock, Yellow Owls, Colin Hay, Peter Ross Wickham’s Purple halo buzzer, Rod Thaw Shipman’s Buzzers, George Duff Suspender Buzzers, James Beaumont, 10 years old first ever fish 2llbs all on his own, Stewart Small and Grieg Small using damsels 3 fish, great afternoon loads lost, Dave Wilson 2 kept 9 returned all on shipman’s buzzers and Ronnie Forsyth 4 fish, what ever is your method or where you go the most important thing is that you enjoy your day.
Fly Fishing is a Pastime, it is not only relaxing, but also rewarding, come to the “Goldenloch” enjoy your Hobby to the max, no stress, only tranquil surroundings abundant wildlife, great fish, Brown, Blues and Rainbows, you will not be disappointed.
