Goldenloch
August 13th-Week-32-2018
A complete and welcomed change in the weather, it has been a long time coming but at last a marked decline in the temperature of the loch, a lot of good fresh water, should see the fishing enjoy the next few weeks, not knowing what the weather is going to do next is always a mystery, but at least a repeat of the last 7 or so weeks shouldn’t happen for a while, the fishing has been fantastic and a few things have been happening, we have had a hatch of small trout, hundreds of thousands and it looks like they are brownies, I do remember putting in a load of diploid brownies a couple of years ago due to them having a load in transit without suddenly a home, we took them here, what I didn’t realise was the impact of that would give us this phenomenon, basically we have fish a shoal of fish thrashing the water at the far end of the loch in the reeds, chasing thousands and thousands of small fishlets everywhere, anglers are having a ball trying to catch them, some are very successful, others are not. But generally they have been doing well at the top of the loch, these fish just gorge themselves and are readily seen on mass everywhere, catching them can prove to be difficult for some and hugely entertaining for others, Huff and Puff returning from a summer break were one of the victims of this natural event, like many anglers they spent a whole day trying their hardest to find the right pattern that would allow a few to be caught, alas it wasn’t to be, on the other hand Kaptain Kemp and his crew had a ball with full bags plus many more, like many others the fishing has been really good, water clarity is good and the weeds are in controlled areas, where the weeds have been removed fishing is as normal, but lures just aren’t working just now, small traditional flies are killing it and this is the place to be for using, Pearly Invictas, Peter Ross, Crippled Midge ( a proper winner just now) Suspender Buzzers (another winner) CDC Patterns, Hoppers, Daddies, small seems to be the emphasis, down to size 22s, we had here camping this last weekend some pretty good anglers and it was interesting to listen to their take on the fishing, no one was disappointed and they were all happy with their catches
