Don’t you think its funny when some places get weed and algae yet say nothing, letting potential clients know or at least warn them that they have a problem, would only be at most decent and honest, however many fisheries have there army of PR pet anglers, still bumming these places up as the ultimate in being able to catch as many fish, all to get as many people through the door, many of these keyboard guys have never even tried other fisheries, honesty is definitely not part of their remit, we here at the “Goldenloch” through our blog believe that anglers have the right to have all the facts in front of them, I don’t mean by saying we stocked today with grade A supertrouts, like this is the only one fishery that gets them, every fishery gets the same fish, but its what fisheries do with them, its after they are put in the loch that counts, and for the record please note that any fish, bird or animal released into the environment is no longer in the eyes of the Inland Revenue, accountable for stock keeping or valuations, it is therefore deemed and classified as WILD, it is not a stocked fish, nor a Stockie, It automatically becomes wild, as it is no longer being held in any form of captivity, it is free to go wherever it wants.
So water management is the key part that allows anglers to have an enjoyable day, and yes there are many clear water fisheries that have basically concrete type bottoms and fish that can be easily caught, yet surely the task and pleasure is to be challenged and enjoy the day, the last couple of years has seen us have to change tactics, mostly due to the bans on herbicides’ like Garson which basically killed or suppressed the weeds, we have had to learn to adapt and mange our weeds and weed beds, its all very well to rip the weeds out by the roots, making the fishing easy, making the fishery seem like it’s a magic place to fish, but fish and fisheries need weeds for cover and feeding, importantly weeds do many other fantastic things, they use up all the soluble nutrients’ that are in the water, Nitrogen, phosphate and potash, all things that are freely available in today’s soil, {remember the phosphate fiasco at loch Leven} insects needs weeds to live in ,breed in, hide in, and most importantly first metamorphosis’ from eggs into buzzers, these buzzers then cling onto the weeds until the right moment and then make their way up to change again into flies, but its not just the insects that love these weeds, the fish also especially on days like we have just had, need somewhere to hide from the sun, remember fish have no eyelids and cant shut their eyes to the glare, somewhere dark and cool, so how is it fishing, well fish are getting caught, mostly of the surface when there is clouds Lloyd had 3 and lost 3 this morning Matt Donaldson had 7 last night, so there is a mild algae in the water however the biggest problem is to much Sunshine, we have one oxygenator on with another to follow fish are moving but rain would be good. Today Friday and I am not mentioning any names but a wee bit of a drama, angler had caught 3 and was playing his fourth when I just happened to notice him buckle and drop onto his knees in the boat, he was trying to wave or rather gesticulate to me, assuming that something was a miss I got into a boat and then when I got to him he gave me his car keys and said medicine bag in the boot get it quick, so after getting the meds spray thing under his tongue, he said that he should have gone to the docs today as yesterday he had a pain in his chest, which basically was a warning, talk about a nice quiet day
