Goldenloch
June 17th -Week-24-2018
Isn’t it a great wonder of the world, how our nature and climate work, only a week ago we were in a heat wave and everyday was hotter than the one before, the fishing was best early morning or last thing at night, now this last week we have had powerful gales and a much needed cooling of the water, this weekend has seen some pretty cold rain fall and even more cooling, temperature has dropped 3+ degrees, the downside is that the buzzer hatches have fallen away, mostly due to the cooler water, as has any surface fly life, but the fishing has seriously become more interesting, as the fish have responded by feeding on the freshwater shrimps, silver water beetles, pond skaters, Corixa, and a multitude of other insects which have blossomed in the recent warm spell, so what is the fishing like now well its good proper Fly Fishing, returns are superb, there are fish in all areas of the loch, anglers are being challenged, yet not to hard and the solutions are pretty easy to find. Ian Duguid and I Brown had an interesting and successful day using Balloon Caddis and Kate McLaren’s, with a quite a few to the boat and interestingly a lot lost, Brian Stewart Dundee, arriving very late one night had 9 all returned on sedge flies, another night fisher Allan Gray using his yellow Owls had 4, 2 returned and flies destroyed by chewing, E Merredy 7 returned, A Hyndman on an early start had a great day 2 for 5lbs and loads returned using Dry Flies, Cinnamon Sedge, wee Vivas, Brian Dewar 10 returned and Alec Burns 11 returned, now this weeks big success has to be Huff and new partner Stewart arrived in a reasonably windy conditions not looking to good but they went on to catch 16 all on Klinkhammers, followed a day later by Huff and Puff 5 each all returned on dry flies also I mustn’t forget that Rab Grierson and Regular Derry had, now this is unusual for Rab to admit “one of his best days ever” with is usual sly smile he said it as he got in the van and said will be back “soon”.
