Goldenloch
May 21st-Week-20-2018
So it was a another week for some of missed fortunes, but a really superb week for excellent proper hard fly fishing, with anglers chopping and changing to find the right patterns, the winning fly, however seems to have been the yellow owl, of which there are quite a few variants, but the ones I have seen were more like grey, CDC suspender buzzers, anyway it turned out to be a hugely successful fly this week, used with other buzzers or Diawl bachs some lads were just having a ball, plus there were several lads ding really well using dry flies, Martin Nicol, Perth like many others only ever fish with dry flies, also when the ground is dry, Martin and others use their cars to get too the waters edge, this is something we recognise for many as useful, as sore knees and hips can be very painful, we are doing more remedial work this week to improve this facility, also the ability is there that fly boxes, batteries motors etc can be taken by car right up to the boats, but please return cars back to the car park, the boats are tied or connected in the harbour and there is a hurdle support bar to assist some getting in and out of boats, for clarity the angling here is Boat or bank, either one or the other, if no boats are available, as has happened a few times this week anglers can fish the bank whilst they wait, each boat has an anchor, a bailer, and a pair of fully working 3 metre oars, if you wish to use your own electric motor, that’s fine by me, so long as it gets dipped in disinfectant, we are also approaching fast the time of year when Argulus lice will be in its infectious stage, we have disinfectant available which is the proper stuff, not some local lidll stuff, our nets are scattered all around the loch, with more new ones ordered, however if you wish to use your own please use the dip, and there is also a freshwater dip to rinse your net as well, it is not advised that under 16 year olds fish without goggles ( we have a box of goggles on hand) or at least some kind of eye protection, most certainly they need to be wearing a hat that covers the ears, also we have 20+ life vests for anyone to use free of charge, this may sound very PC but over the years I have removed and seen lots of hooks in some strange places, please be advised that Fife Health Board insist that no one removes a hook, that is above the neck, or anywhere on the head or face, that situation must be referred to hospital, Why are things like this becoming such a problem, well it is public liability insurance, yes fisheries can get easy insurance but all the above, if it is not adhered too means that you the anglers are going to lose out, we no longer teach under 12 year olds, as it is a legal requirement that instructors must have a disclosure Scotland and have passed a basic instructors coarse all this for obvious reasons, fishing still however is a great hobby and the above only helps to make it safe and even more fun, the last thing anyone wants is an injury.
