Goldenloch
May 14th-Week-19-2018
This week has been a roller coaster for the fishing, we started with blistering hot weekend last week with great fishing, especially in the morning and early evenings, some really good rises, and I mean proper hatching flies, very small black flies coming from black buzzers, this changed on Tuesday with a strong wind and dark clouds spoiling the fishing, but breaking into a flat calm at night and a busy loch coining in on the evening rise, Wednesday saw a big blustery wind, but also a cold air front, which chilled the surface, spoiling the evening rise, Thursday saw wind again and the water getting murky due to the wind but anglers turning out all did well and catches were on buzzers and cormorants the evening was better than the night before but it was cold not pleasant for fishing, Friday saw more wind, not as strong but enough to be annoying, one lad unfortunately getting a broken oar saw him going round in circles trying to get back, it fished well on Friday but the water was brackish and lads on the bank doing much better however Steven Scobie, Newburgh visiting had a great day using exceptionally small flies, both on the boat and bank, whether to fish boat or bank is often asked, and here you can do both it is up to you the angler, Saturday saw, thank goodness clear water, hatches starting again its amazing how a couple of days cold can set things back, with this clear water things started well and surprisingly we had a lot of swallows and sand martins feeding of the surface which I would say was really early for them, our visiting Osprey thank goodness has found somewhere else to feed, it would seem or rather rumour has it that Lindores our neighbour has dropped in a stocking, I have a sneaky feeling that’s where the bird is feeding, so Sunday saw the loch booked and a great day was had with everyone fishing all bar one had bagged up but even then Rinky had 3 and had lost loads, so its been a fantastic week all round and most importantly and I think safe to say everyone attending had a good day with some excellent fish being caught.
