Goldenloch
April 30th-Week-17-2018
Its good to see guys catching fish and enjoying catching them, the fish are basically in every corner of the loch, but there are areas that are better than others, there is also flies that are working much better than others, since the water warmed up in the past few days, its gone from 5.5 to 8.5 degrees C, now that’s not a huge amount, 3 degrees, but what I am almost positive what is actually happening, now that the water is gin clear, the suns rays are getting to the floor of the loch, this is encouraging hatches, bourne out by the fact that there are zillions of small black flies all over everything, the blood worms on the bottom are coming out the mud and changing into buzzers and Nymphs, so buzzers, bloodworms and Nymphs’ are all working well, not so hot is catching on dry flies, which for a lot of guys that is their preferred method of fishing, however the guys that do persevere with them always catch a fish, Nice to see the brothers Grime or Huff and Puff as I know them, recovering from pretty intensive days and stays in Hospital they arrived on a blustery day, both in new cars so it was good to see them have a great day, 12 fish returned but as they said they dropped 3 times that amount as the fish were just nibbling, Stewart Milne had a blistering day as did Paul Reid and Keith Talbot all old regulars here at the Goldenloch, John Bashford and Sandy Drummond found that Wednesday passed was bitter cold, but both returned a few, Mr Duncan returning 9 keeping 3 all on buzzers, Using black buzzers was J Talmz, 7 returned, now its not all been rosy, Thursday saw a lad and his pal fishing from a boat, by chance I happened to be quite close to him, asking how he was getting on the answer was great, as usual my next question was what you catching them on, the reply was a booby , I then asked him to come over and his set up was, blob/bung, FAB and then a booby, I then asked what was catching the most and it was the FAB however the fact that he was doing Catch and Realise was enough for me to ask him and his mate to leave, strangely he said on leaving which was very a amicable departure “ Where can I learn to fish Proper” and we had a chat and it seems this lad loves his fishing he is from Lower Valleyfield and only has in is boxes what the shops sell him, so on asking he showed me his collection of blobs, FABs, lures by the hundreds, snakes, wotsits and other strange creations and that was it, he genuinely wants to learn to fly fish, when I said that virtually everything in his box was against the ethos of what we are trying to do here, he was genuinely was surprised saying that when he goes fishing that’s what everyone else uses, but interestingly he himself admitted that he was a poor angler yet he constantly catches fish, quite big ones at some places, so far no one has shown him how to cast or retrieve, he knew nothing about lines or setups only what he has seen on you tube, after about an hour or so with me showing him what I preferred he has said he will come back for instruction as he wants to know more. All pictures this week are from a regular photographer John Brown who was here yesterday.
