Goldenloch
April 23rd-Week-16-2018
What a awesome past few days, where do I start, Ok, the fish here at the Goldenloch are not fresh stockies, which means anglers have too, firstly match what they are going to fish with, so as to emulate what the fish are taking, secondly the fish are not going to chase things that look like feeding pellets, they have long moved on from that, third the fish are responding well just now to sunshine and warm air, cold changing winds just don’t do well, fourthly, it seems like evening flat calms are really good, So how has it been fishing, early morning pre wind is good, mid morning till mid afternoon a tad harder, evening is ace, the Osprey has no problem in finding fish at any time of the day, the current total as at 5pm Sunday stands at 58 trout caught and removed, so its pretty obvious Mrs Osprey is sitting on a nest, most of the fish caught by the Osprey is at the far end of the loch, we are also unfortunately getting a few dead fish that have been mutilated and die, but as my father used to say, it’s a poor man that grudges feeding the wildlife, easy seeing that Ospreys are not so hot in the photographic world this season, a proper lack of photographers’ this year, so the fishing is good, its superb, with almost all anglers having returned a good catch, some lads stating that the fights from the fish are outstanding, confusion in the pricing, and cant see how, we have two tickets a £15 and a £20 that’s not hard to understand, the £15 is for approx 5 hours, the £20 is for 8 hours, the £15 ticket allows the client to kill the first two fish he catches, the £20 ticket is for the first 3 fish, both tickets allow the client to then fish catch and release, now I think the next bit is where there is confusion, the same prices exists for a Catch and Realise tickets, why, well they enjoy the same benefits as the kill tickets and it is their choice not to kill, and if I ever hear any one say, O well I will just kill a couple of fish, they will be told where to go, we have no charge, that is zero, for boats, and clients can chop and change as they wish, personally I think what we offer is the best and cheapest fishing about, and I strenuously am trying hard to keep it that way, I do understand however that there are fisheries about that aren’t owner operators, they have rent to pay, and that’s why there is a huge rush to get a lot of big fish in their waters, basically enticing anglers for that once in a lifetime catch (every week) (and usually 2 days after stocking) but its not about catching loads of fish, its about enjoying and having some me time, Fly fishing is a hobby its for personal satisfaction and gratification, its been made into a monster because of competitions’ and the need to make money, which is sad as the next generation of anglers stand no chance of being able to compete, in what is a pretty much closed book, nothing ever changes 30 years ago we stopped doing club fishing, only keeping the best of what we thought were the environmentally sensitive clubs, we like what we do here for this way of life, and a weekend like what we have just had prove to us that you like it as well.
