Goldenloch
April 16th -Week-15-2018
Warmer but still rotten weather these last couple of days spoils the fishing a tad, basically the fishing has improved dramatically in the last week, Monday till Friday was excellent and well formed fully finned hard fighting fish were being caught all over the loch, with a few with bloodworms still attached, which lets the angler see that they have been lying dormant over the winter, red / green buzzers were working really well as was red / black with orange cheeks, since January we have introduced a load of brown trout and a full load of brownies as well as 4 loads of standard size rainbows, now all those fish have had time to acclimatise to their new surroundings and it is surprising to us that there are not more fish showing on the surface early morning, however we are still subject to a nasty east wind and it is that wind that is keeping the fish low, don’t get me wrong guys are still catching fish but they are having to work at it, interestingly every evening around 7 pm we have seen flat calms and then the fish can be seen, perusing around, mostly at the edges, hatches so far have been pretty poor, due to the cold wind and water, yes there are a few flies to be seen but nothing like I have see before in Mid April, it amusing to see the catches at some other fisheries with giant fish being the norm at most places, what I would want to know is what happens to all these lumps that are being caught, do they get binned or just fed to the dog or at best eaten, the osprey is making a pretty regular appearances just now, mostly in very early morning 6 >7 am and then 2 > 4 and again around 7pm, it has had to date about 30 fish I cant understand how the photographers are missing it they come and then leave like yesterday and 5 mins later it arrives, the water is a wee tad murky just now and I reckon that is the changing winds to blame, this week is looking good with favourable temperatures outside, I really hope so as the loch is 3 degrees lower than it should be another reason for the poor hatches but it will all change soon. Tight lines are coming.
