Goldenloch
Not much to write about other than the fish are lying low just now, Fish being cold blooded creatures (poikilothermic) which means having the ability to change there body temperature to the surrounds that they are in, as they are in a very cold environment just now, so they have virtually shut down to their absolute basic functions, therefore need very little carbohydrates or protein at this time of year, eating, moving are not on the current list of things too, pellet fed fish (stocked Trout) on the other hand are very active, they have been reared in a total different environment with robotic feeders throwing in high concentrate protein/carbohydrates/oils, mostly manufactured from other forms of fish products and oils, two or three times per day, these fish will change to more natural feeding but it takes time, so as farmed fish they are relatively easy to catch, but as the days pass without fish pellets they themselves move into a more naturalized environment, fisheries do not feed fish, because of the cold water, as the metabolism shuts down the fish into winter mode, a good sign of this is in the spring when the first rays of sunshine hit the water the first fish caught usually have bloodworms snails (molluscs) etc attached to there scales a sure sign that they have been hibernating in the warmer mud on the loch floor, But for the moment a good hard winter can only but do a lot of good killing off unwanted weeds and bugs, however it will need to be a lot colder than this to be of any real good.
