Goldenloch
July-09th-Week-29-2017
Busy week, well busy for me, got the rackety jetty fixed, at long last, and the one up at the hut fixed, fish are everywhere, I mean everywhere, rising fish are just the norm just now, sedges and daddies, catches are good, spectacular for some, but the most important thing is everybody is pretty happy, lots of giggles, weed pulling is going well with a much better longer hydra rope, about 400 kilos of weed every pull, but interestingly it’s the amount of shrimp and snails in the weed that’s just awesome, and I really mean billions of them, had a wee incident one day when an anglers in his boat inadvertently got snagged in the wire rope, ended up with him getting a wee tug, [ Sorry Derry] A full loch full of anglers, not one caught it on video, it would have been a proper you’ve been framed moment, so the weather is ace, the fishing is completely top of the water stuff, hoppers, dries, etc Fife council were back, now the water is crystal clear, no algae, yet they still have to take a sample and wait for results, So this Monday sees a new load of fish going in, this load will be 135 fish all about a Kilo which is 2.2lbs, I am often asked how many fish in a load, a full load is 135 kilos and then there is the water in the tank, added both together and the pickup is at its maximum legal limit allowed in the UK, we put them straight into the loch, the less handling they get the better, its always very amusing how a couple of days after a stocking, you always get the same special guys turning up, catching these newly stocked fish, every time, every cast, without fail, battering fish, I call it, how can they possibly think that they are fly fishing, I mean one or two days off protein pellets, the problem is that these pellet fed fish have to become acclimatised to natural food and that takes about a week, during this period they are starving, will take absolutely any thing that’s thrown at them, that is until they get settled into a new feeding regime, the only major plus to that is, that it is great for youngsters and beginners to catch a fish, this week sees us here with loads of beginners and kids, which I have arranged to coincide with a stocking, the school holidays, always nice to see a young girl or boy with a lump, caught with some amazing new creation. Maybe a picture or two or three. A wee mention for the Burnside Anglers, having a Fish-Camp-Fish stay, at the Goldenloch, a very pleasant trouble free polite group of Lads, I really cant remember the catch numbers they had but they definitely had a good night even although the fishing has been hard this weekend, lots of fish showing but being very particular.
