Goldenloch
June-04TH –Week 23- 2017
This last week started of well, with some good catches, lots of new anglers and lots of anglers that have never been here for a long time, its nice to see them again, renewing old friendships, the fishing on the loch has been very much been on or just under the surface, with shipman’s, CDC and buzzers getting the best results, Graham Brailsford again loads on Sedges, Matt Donaldson had a storming day using midges, Jim Paton D Currie Buzzers, Craig Scott 4am start had a brilliant day dries and buzzers, Saturday and Sunday were total write offs with really low air pressure and thunder and lightning storms.
The Algae squad at Fife Council are very quick of the starting blocks this year, this algae that we have, is very patchy, very light, thinly spread across the loch, but they have again posted their notice advising “Anglers, Fish caught here must not be consumed” this is there iffy notice, its very politically PC, it is a warning notice, I personally think it should read “Please do not allow dogs or pets to drink from this water, and please refrain from swimming”
For a good many years, we here at The “Goldenloch” have been very sensitive to the damage that can be caused by Argulas, “fresh water Lice” the weather conditions this year have been very much been like the perfect storm conditions, for the breeding and spreading of the eggs of this horrendous contaminating lice, a long spell of mild weather followed by sudden heat, a rapid rise in the water temperature, up to a temperature that causes the Argulas to hatch, find a fish to attach itself onto, since the last big infection at a neighbouring loch, we have insisted that all anglers dip their nets in our disinfection tank, then wash with them with fresh water, this has been in effect for a long time and has been for us pretty successful, however we in the light of the past few weeks, have introduced a second dipping tank, this is for electric outboards, and nets, everything must be dipped before using in the loch, It would be irresponsible of us as an operator of a fishery, to not increase our defence, also if any Argulas is found, we will alert others to its presence, we would expect any other loch or water operators, to be open about an infection if it was spotted and inform.
As far as I understand the current rules and regulations regarding the fish Bio Security are governed by Marine Scotland, which are based in Faskally Perthshire, and it would be their responsibility to do something about any outbreaks of Argulas
