Goldenloch
By Jove, what a pleasure this week has been, its been a great week, a week where the weather has been pretty much perfect, and the fishing, its been well, more or less the same, some outstanding catches by regulars, and old regulars, but first the loch and water, the recent weeks sunshine has seen the water temperature slowly rise, 2 degrees, and that has prompted a lot of buzzers insects (crustations) to hatch, there has been, at certain times flurries of birds, swallows, sand martins, which seemed to have come back about a week ago, they have been doing their usual swooping over he surface, now interestingly there seems to be noticeable hatches about 7.30am, 2pm, and 6pm, the 2pm one is the odd one, sometimes doesn’t happen, depending on the cloud cover, but interestingly the fish are in all areas, and are coming up sticking their noses out the water all day, making rings, which is exciting but they are not actually feeding, rather just having a we nose, or play with the water surface, when you study the water its pretty lifeless just now and the small insect life compared to what it will be in lets say a month is low, although there are a few beetles and early tadpoles moving about, but remember it has been really cold these past few months so everything is a bit late, on examination the fish are feeding on bloodworms, snails, and generally buzzer type larvae and the contents of the stomachs are still pretty small but are just a black goo, water clarity with the brightness has become cloudy, this year as we have had no significant rain, there has not been the usual flush of phosphates’ and nitrogen from the surrounding fields, so the green algae threat is low, at the moment, from what I am hearing it would seem that there is brown algae going about so the aerator may be sprung into life some day. Anglers catches have been pretty amazing, with some lads catching good numbers of fish, Stewart Milne, Glenrothes, using buzzers and dry flies being one, as was John Henan, Rab Grierson, and the many friends, who all had an amazing days fishing, certainly was a lot of hilarity from the loch, Alec Burns and Brian Dewar both enjoying a very relaxed day, were catching fish steadily using various buzzers and dry flies and I believe a few double hook-ups were about, Eddie Henderson and Harold a great days sport and Don Stewart partnered with John Grey both doing really well, infact I don’t think anyone this past week had a poor day, certainly seemed that way.
