Goldenloch
April-03rd–Week 14- 2017
Its April, suddenly, very quickly everything will start to change, for a start this morning at 4.30am, we had the most amazing dawn chorus from all the wee birds that scurry about, for them this is a safe time away from the predator hawks, buzzards etc they are feeding on all the many wee insects and grubs that are starting to move about, Mr Henry, Dundee a very early angler 5am, said that the fish showing and feeding at that time was utterly amazing, with a complete glazed flat calm, he could actually see the millions of small buzzers hatching on the surface of the water, outside temperature at 7am is 8 degrees, Its nice to see all the daffodils snowdrops’ and flowering trees, but its even better to realise that this is bug time, in the water millions of insects crustations, etc are all breeding, this coupled with the warm weather, entices the fish to feed, a lot, I do mean not just one or two fish are being caught just now with leeches, worms etc attached to them, this really good and there is nothing wrong with these fish, its just they have been laid up somewhere waiting on spring coming, overwintered fish at this time of year very much tend to be much leaner, carry very little flesh on their backs, due in most to them hibernating, a good example of this is the natural brown trout which to be honest are really thin just now, however it takes very little time for these fish to get back on form as the insect life in the water accelerates really quickly, fishing this past week has been very good especially on the warmer days, tending to be better in the mid – late afternoon, the fish are coming to the surface for periods of perhaps 10 to 15 mins in burst every hour or so, Brian Stewart and Willie Robertson Dundee both had several fish all returned using Montana Nymphs and Diawl Bachs, George Duff, Buckhaven had a great day with buzzers and small dry flies, Callum Munro fishing from the bank had a good day this young man taught himself to fish and enjoys his me time he lost a few as well as catching a few, but he had a great day, Mr Henry just leaving 9 all on his own flies, caddis Nymph, olive damsel nymphs and black / green diawl bachs, but he failed with his own version of a claret klinkhammer which seemingly had loads of offers or interested fish but no takes, Last week regular Eddie Henderson, Perth had 6 with a lot lost he also was using just dry flies Martin Nicol also fishing from the bank, catching several with his famous black tadpoles. Just seen the osprey back straight into the loch and of with a fish.
